Travel News Sept/Oct 2022

BENIDORM 61

The Grand Central Hotel is at the heart of Belfast. Set in the Linen Quarter, this luxury hotel is a spectacular hub for exploring all Belfast has to offer. With 300 bedrooms designed for absolute comfort and relaxation, the vibrant and contemporary Grand Cafe, stunning Seahorse Restaurant and Observatory, Ireland’s tallest cocktail lounge, a stay at the Grand Central is unforgettable.

Our first stop of the Jeep Tour was

back in the Sierra Helada mountains to encounter the Cross of Benidorm and embrace this historical monument. After a stop at one of the highest points of Benidorm, which allowed us to see the entire resort from an almost Birdseye view and taking in the incredible sights, it was officially ‘wine time’! Located less than 20 minutes from Benidorm centre, this is an excursion worth taking and the highlight of my trip. After some education on the history and vineyard, we were escorted throughout the winery premises seeing and learning about the wine making facilities, wine ageing room and tasting room before getting down to the nitty gritty of the tasting. We sampled 7 high quality wines paired with cold tapas – DEVINE! If the art that is wine, and charcuterie is your thing then when in Benidorm this is a must do - https:// bodegasmendoza. com/en/enrique- mendoza/

JETS SKIS AND

ROUGH SEAS As we reached

our final day, day 3, the glorious sunshine and hot weather we had throughout the trip was no different – except today the beautiful beach areas were showcasing red flags which warned us of a high hazard, meaning high surf and/or strong currents. As a first timer

of watersports, about to venture into the sea for our final activities, I was naturally a little apprehensive of the planned paddle surfing and jet skiing. We were advised paddle boarding was a no-go in the current sea conditions – Jet Skiing was still on the

cards – so off we went for a fun-filled and choppy 30 minutes (another activity now to be repeated on my future holidays!). FOR THE FOODIES Seafront Paellas, Rooftop Cocktails &

Tapas- I can’t tell you all about this trip without talking about everyone’s favourite topic – FOOD! And the culinary contrasts cleverly arranged by Visit Benidorm did not disappoint. From Seafront Paellas at Ulia Restaurant

to

Tapas at La Taperia

Old

Town and not forgetting rooftop cocktails

in

Planta 20 Lounge & Rooftop Bar

in Hotel Madeira Centro – the cuisines were to die for. But it was D-Vora situated

in the Old Town, with their incredible grub and breath- taking sea views, that stole my heart. AND THAT’S A WRAP So,

after 4 excursions,

amazing 6

phenomenal culinary experiences, detailed education on ‘Smart Tourism’

& ‘Sustainable Benidorm’ and free time to explore the hotel

and resort – my ‘Benidorm Blitz’ was done. As a first timer it would be safe to say I had a specific perception in my head of ‘Benidorm’ – and whilst yes, there is a world famous ‘party’ zone available if that’s your that’s your thing, but there is so much more than meets the eye to this popular holiday resort. So,

mission

accomplished and a huge thank you to Sergio and Visit Benidorm – I

certainly learned and loved ‘The alternative side of Benidorm’.
