MSC Cruises Remain Committed to Protecting the Environment
MSC Cruises’ entire fleet has achieved ISO 21070:2017 certification for marine environmental protection. This specifies procedures for the shipboard management of
waste, including handling, collection,
separation, marking, treatment, and storage. It also describes the ship-to-shore interface and the delivery of waste from the ship to port reception facilities. All future ships built for MSC Cruises will receive this certification as they enter service. ISO 21070:2017 certification
is
complementary to EU Implementing Regulation 2022/91 of 21 January 2022, which defines criteria for determining that a ship produces
reduced quantities of waste and manages waste in a sustainable and environmentally sound manner. ISO’s criteria provide additional information on waste management practices for port authorities to consider when calculating fees reduction for use of port reception facilities in accordance with EU Directive 2019/883. & Compliance, said: “We are delighted that our entire fleet is now certified with ISO 21070:2017. As we work to solve the great sustainability challenges that our industry faces, we continue to deploy every tool available to accelerate this, including industry standards and certification. We are and will always remain committed to environmental protection.”
The Viking Saigon Inaugural Asian Season Gets Underway
VIKING’S newest river ship, the Viking Saigon, began its inaugural season in Southeast Asia recently. Purpose-built for the Mekong River, the 80-guest ship
sails between Kampong Cham, Cambodia and Mỹ Tho, Vietnam as part of Viking’s popular 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary. With the 2022-2023 season now underway,
regular sailing dates are
available through to March 2023; the 2023-2024 season begins in July 2023. “The fascinating cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made this region a favourite destination among our
guests,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “We are also pleased to welcome back to Southeast Asia our first guests since early 2020. With arrival of the Viking Saigon, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to this iconic waterway in the coming years.”

Purpose-built for the Mekong River, the new Viking Saigon hosts 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms. Featuring the clean Scandinavian design for which Viking is known, all staterooms have hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a Veranda or French Balcony. Guests on the three-deck Viking Saigon also enjoy a Spa & Fitness Centre, Infinity Pool and open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck.
