Las Vegas has a deep-rooted history when it comes to entertaining the masses, some of the world’s most renowned international figures have taken to the Las Vegas stage to provide memorable performances for their fans or travellers willing to make the most of their trip.
The phenomenon of dazzling performers on Las Vegas Strip began in the 1950s, when fans were able to catch performances of the iconic Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. These hit-performances took place in the Sands Hotel, now demolished, the hotel stood as a symbol of glitz and glamour back in the 50s and 60s. The Brat Pack performances were so reoccurring that a permanent marquee was placed outside the Sands Hotel for the entirety of 1963, reading “Dean Martin, Maybe Frank, Maybe Sammy.” An entire evening was made from these

The turn of the century introduced a whole new level of excitement and anticipation to the Las Vegas Strip, performers and travellers began to come from far and wide to indulge in the pleasures and sights of Sin City. The range of performers who took to the stage was certainly not limited to musicians, all forms of entertainment are welcomed, albeit encouraged, to take up residencies in some of the Iconic hotels on the strip, including the MGM Park Grand, Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood, and many more. Opting to show their sleight of hand, magicians and illusionists were a major driver of tourism for many of the residencies. Magic acts such as Penn and Teller first performed in Las Vegas in 1989 and have become a permanent addition to the What’s On list, even to this day. Still to this day, arenas and hotel stadiums are filled with tourists and fans of many notable musicians, performers and artists who opt to complete a residency in Las Vegas. These all-singing, all-dancing, all-glitz residencies have remained one of Nevada’s most successful tourism- driving forces. Armed with stage presence, talent along the spectacular sounds and sights of Las Vegas, world- renowned performers such Cher, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Elton John and many more have dazzled the crowds of Nevada. Therefore, this proves that all that glitters truly is gold in the thriving entertainment industry of Viva Las Vegas.
