Douwe Kiestra The Netherlands IFHE President
Douwe Kiestra Douwe Kiestra is president of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE), vice president of the Dutch Association for Technology in Healthcare (NVTG) – after being president for more than six years, a member of the IFHE Digest advisory panel and board member of the Ronald McDonald children’s foundation Friesland and several other branch committees. Douwe has a background in building engineering, studied economics and has more than 25 years’ experience working for both public and private healthcare organisations in the Netherlands. He is responsible for real estate, estate management, building, renovation and maintenance of hospitals, nursing homes and elderly housing. He is currently operational and commercial director of the building and installation multinational Strukton Worksphere in the north east of the Netherlands and a specialist in the realisation of healthcare projects.
Darryl Pitcher CEO for Bethsalem Care and GreenBriars Village, Australia, Darryl has many years experience in hospital engineering in the public and private sectors. He is a past president of the Institute of Hospital Engineering, Australia (IHEA). Previously he oversaw a ‘revamp’ of the IHEA website and The Australian Hospital Engineer journal.
Daniela Pedrini
Daniela Pedrini is an engineer. She has had a long career in health, holding important roles in technical hospital management, including director of the technical, planning and investment department at the Hospital – University Authority of Bologna – S Orsola
Darryl Pitcher Australia IFHE Vice President
Polyclinic. She directed a multimillion PFI contract for the total renovation of the hospital’s energy production. She is project manager for renovations and new hospital construction, co-founder and president of the Italian Association of Architects and Engineers for Healthcare (SIAIS) and president of IFHE-EU. She has been awarded the Italian Republic Order of Merit.
Liliana Font Liliana Font is an architect for Consejo Presional de Arquitectura e Ingeniería, Buenos Aires, Argentina (CPAU); Sociedad Central de Arquitectos (SCA). Liliana is founder partner of AFS
Arquitectos SC, which specialises in hospital planning. She is a founder member and past president of Asociación Argentina de Arquitectura e Ingeniería Hospitalaria (AADAIH) and was president of the AADAIH Latin American Congresses in Buenos Aires in 1993, 1998 and 2006. She was an IFHE Executive Committee member from 1992-1998, 2000-2002 and 2010-2014; an IFHE council member from 1988-2012; and a member of the IFHE Digest Advisory Panel from 2009-2013.
Gunnar Baekken Gunnar Baekken is past president of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE), past vice president of the Norwegian Association of Biomedical Engineering and a past president of the Norwegian Association of Hospital Engineering (FSTL). He has also participated in national and international committees concerning hospital technology and facilities management, including the World Health Organization (WHO).
Daniela Pedrini Italy IFHE Second Vice President
He is currently director of non medical supports at the University of Trondheim in Norway. He gained a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Technical University, Norway in 1978.
Andy Wavell Andy Wavell began his health service career in 1966, having previously completed mechanical engineering training with the Central Electricity Generating Board. Between 1966 and 2000, he held positions as both assistant and hospital engineer and assistant district engineer. From 2000 until his retirement in 2004, he was assistant director of estates and capital development with Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. During his time in Brighton, he took over the management of the apprentice training scheme and has been pleased to see many of the trainees succeed in gaining senior management positions within estate management in the health service. Since retiring, he has continued to undertake consultancy work in estate and facilities management. Andy holds a Full Tech Certificate in Plant Maintenance and Works Services, a Certificate of the Institute of Works Managers and is an Incorporated Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHHEM). Andy was an IHEEM council member and chair of the International Technical Platform from 2012 to 2017. He has been an IHEEM representative for the IFHE since 2008. In addition he has been responsible for the publication of the IFHE Health Briefings and IFHE Digest since 2008.
