How do you create a long-term plan?

Start with the production in one growing room. Estimate when the flush will start and the yield you can expect each day. Note this in the planning. The week starts on a Wednesday, as this is the day the growing room is filled on and where your calculations start. Once you know the figures for one room, you can fill in the other rooms. This example shows a six-week cropping cycle with six growing rooms. One of the rooms is filled every Wednesday. So the plans shift a week each time the next room is filled. After six weeks, you can fill the first room again. Harvesting the first flush starts after 19 days.

In the first, second and third flush note how many kilos you expect to harvest per square metre. At the bottom you can see the total number of kilos per m2 per day of all the rooms.

Total estimated harvest

Below the plan, you can see the number of kilos you can harvest each day. For instance, the growing room is 580 m2. The production planning will look like this. The week starts on a Wednesday, as this is the day the growing room is filled on and where your calculations start.

Production planning

You can create a production plan based on the long-term plan. As long as the filling day doe- sn’t change, the production plan will mirror the long-term plan. Making the final estimations depends on when the compost is delivered. If you receive it during inoculation, the first flush will appear after five weeks. If you receive the compost when phase III compost is being filled, you will see the first flush in two and a half to three weeks. If the compost quality is poor or incubation takes longer than usual, you can already alter your plan. The plan then becomes an estimate. The mushrooms will appear later and there will be fewer than normal. The closer

The run up to the main festive season is a top period for mushrooms, with high consumption. On warm summer days, a time with many other sea- sonal vegetables on off er, demand is much lower. Coping with this requires planning.
