Nutrigain Ltd., stand 59 “We at Nutrigain are at the cutting edge of our industry for feeding mycelium during growing. Historically we are recog- nised for the Natural Gold range of supplements”, says Stuart G Whitehall of Nutrigain Ltd. in Cheshire, the UK. “Economic and environmental issues means we as growers must focus on ways of becoming more efficient; increasing produc- tion of high quality mushrooms out of the same or less compost thereby increasing our profits. Gaining more from our base materials needs a fresh perspective and after many years of research into mushroom nutrition, we have developed true com- mercial solutions. The basis of many of our products are in a liquid form; just as our sister horticultural growers have adopted over the last two decades making feeding easier and much more efficient. Liquid Gold for the compost gives a simple, easy way to apply nutrition at spawning safely and effectively. Also unique to our company is nutrition of the casing layer. Casing has a huge impact for releasing the full potential of the mushroom crop and this can be brought about by the addition of our range of MycroNutrient products. We also market a very effective natural disinfectant Sporekill which has three modes of action and is totally safe to the operator and environment.” Everything Nutrigain manufacture uses only natural ingredients and is chemical free. According to Stuart, “with a little investment you can get much more out of your compost, speed up your timing, improve production, have better quality and stabilise your production - all of which makes you more money”. Gicom has been developing climate control software for the mushroom growing sector for more than 25 years. As well as measu- ring and regulating vari- ous climate parameters in the growing room, the visual appearance of the mushrooms is also an important as- pect used by growers to take management decisions. To do this, the grower needs to physically inspect all the growing rooms several times a day, check the current stage of development and adapt the climate accordingly to achieve the ideal conditions. To support this process, Gicom is introducing a camera that can be installed in the growing room to show the current status of the beds. The images recorded by the camera are saved by the climate control program and can be viewed immediately. Older frames that have been saved can be replayed as a film. The climate control program also analyses the latest images - a process which provides data about, for example, the number of mushrooms on the bed. It can also determine how large the mushrooms are and their growth rate. The images can be used early on during cultivation at the pinheading stage, and also later on to identify the ideal moment to harvest. The huge advantage of the system is improved hygiene- the growing rooms do not have to entered more than is strictly necessary. The camera is also resistant to cook out and watering.
