Single Remedy Potency Page
Singles and cell salts all require that you choose the potency. Here’s the scoop: The potency of a remedy is the number of times it has been diluted and homeopathically processed. X potencies are diluted on a scale of 1:10, C potencies 1:100. This highly simplified illustration depicts the process. The Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS) defines the exact standards, tests and guidelines for each remedy. (See our FAQs, page 35)
1. The Source
Remedy sources– plant, mineral or animal**– are tested and then ground, steeped in alcohol to make a tincture (liquid - NF alcohol) or triturate (powder - NF lactose). NF details page 35.
2. Dynamization
Tincture or triturate is made into a desired potency through a series of X or C dilutions. At each level, the dilution is ‘potentized’– processed with succussive, vigorous shaking.*
3. Final Form
X potency tablets: soft, quick-dissolving NF lactose. C potency pellets: treated sucrose in candy-like balls with NF lactose covering.

Potency Options Your choice! Our basic singles are readily available in these four different potencies. For more options, call us.
Illustration Notes: This version of manufacture is simplified and the “shaking” represents hours of vigorous processing.
**Animal Activists please note that other than a very few bees, only animal by- products (venom, sepia ink, lactose) are used in our remedies. A few others do exist in the industry (e.g. Formica from ants).
Which Potency?
The idea that a remedy is stronger the higher its dilution, is confusing at best. For starters, here are some basic guidelines to consider when choosing potency and frequency of dosing.
1. In general Start low so you can go higher, clearing symptoms as potency increases. 6X is standard.
2. Selection:Lower potencies cover a wider range of symptoms, so are ideal if you are not certain that you have the right remedy. Higher potencies need more accurate selection to stimulate ideal healing. 3. Severity The more severe or sudden the symptoms, the higher the potency you might want.
4. Frequency The higher the potency, the less often you need to dose. The key to dosing is to stop or reduce dosing when symptoms improve.
5. Aggravations High potencies can stimulate more healing aggravations, i.e, temporary increases in current or seemingly new symptoms such as the purging of a sinus infection, cough or skin eruption.
Which is stronger 6X or 30X? Less is more in homeopathy. 30x is more dilute, but also more potent and therefore deeper acting than 6X. The benefit of 6X is that it requires less precision in selection and can be ideal for light, repeatable dosing.

Principle #2 Minimum Dose
While searching for a safe system for dosing, homeopathy’s founding father, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, was surprised to find that even in infinitesimally small doses, the healing properties of the source substance were still present and even grew stronger– if he succussed each dilution vigorously. He compared the process to that of pounding an iron rod to make a magnet. Thus in his search for ways to ‘do no harm’, Hahnemann established the Principle of the Minimum Dose.
