N ARDMORE, OKLA. MAN WAS ARRESTED ON JULY 20 AFTER STEALING 90 HEAD OF CATTLE NEAR Gainesville.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Troy

McKinney led the investigation along with Cook County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jimmie Anne Harp. According to McKinney, the suspect, Chancy Lynn Masey, 40, Ardmore, Okla., sur-

rendered himself to authorities at the Cook County Jail in Gainesville after a felony warrant was issued for his arrest for the alleged theft of livestock charge. McKinney says the suspect was caring for cattle that belonged to 2 ranchers from

the Oklahoma City area. Masey allegedly stole a total of 90 head of cattle in small numbers between September 2015 and June 2016 and sold them at livestock markets in Overbook, Okla., and Waurika, Okla. The suspect was released on a $20,000 bond. “This case provides another example of how important it is to know who you are

doing business with,” says McKinney. “Cattle thieves often take advantage of others because they think they can get away with it. This was not the case for this suspect. I appreciate Sgt. Harp and the Cook County Sheriff’s Offi ce for working with me to arrest another cattle thief.” TSCRA would also like to thank Sgt. Harp and the Cook County Sheriff’s Offi ce for their assistance during this investigation.

RANKIE LANE HUNT, 20, DEPEW, OKLA., SURRENDERED HIMSELF TO AUTHORITIES ON JUNE 20 AND was booked into the Creek County Jail in Sapulpa, Okla., after stealing 24 head

of cattle from 3 Oklahoma ranches. Another suspect involved in this case, Charles Edward Roby III, 20, Bristow, Okla., has a warrant for his arrest but has not been apprehended. Both suspects have been charged with 4 counts of larceny of domestic animals in the Creek County District Court. TSCRA Special Rangers Bart Perrier and Brett Wellden are jointly conducting this

ongoing investigation. According to Perrier, their investigation revealed that both Hunt and Roby began stealing cattle from 3 victims and selling them at livestock markets in Bristow, Okmulgee and at the Oklahoma National Stockyards in Oklahoma City. The suspects stole a total of 24 head of cattle from Depew-Milfay area of Creek

County, Okla. On May 24, Hunt and Roby stole cattle for a second time from one of the victims. These cattle were transported and sold by the suspects at the Oklahoma National Stockyards. The suspects were each charged with 4 counts of larceny of livestock in the Creek

County District Court and felony warrants were issued. Hunt has been released on a $100,000 bond and his arraignment on the charges was set for July 29. An arrest war- rant for Roby from Creek County is outstanding. The bond on his warrant has been set at $100,000, and his arrest is pending at this time. “The cattle stolen in the second theft from the same victim had recently been

branded, which aided in their quick identifi cation.” Perrier states, “This highlights the value and importance of branding cattle and how it can aid law enforcement in the identifi cation of stolen cattle in these cases.”
