to learn and understand the benefi ts cattle grazing offers to wildlife habitat and then approach owners of ranches bought for hunting purposes with a grazing/ habitat management service plan. “One of the best opportunities for a young person
wanting to get a start in ranching is in South Texas,” Bond suggested. “If I were a young man in that area, I’d get the research that shows where lightly stocking country in South Texas with cattle does not affect deer habitat and actually enhances quail habitat. I would take that and fi nd out who owned these hunting ranches and say, ‘Read this. The next time you’re here, I want to visit. I want to provide the cattle. I want to lease this ranch for nothing and I will maintain your feeders year round when I’m coming in here to check cattle. I’ll check the camp and if someone comes through and
