Cattle Raisers Community Of things that concern cattle raisers …
Member Notes
Looking Back, Looking Ahead By Claude Koontz, Association Promotion Committee chair
I
n this space, we have repeat- edly discussed the impor- tance of Texas and Southwest-
ern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) membership events as an opportunity to connect with existing members and recruit additional members. TSCRA hosted nearly 70 membership events in
2016, ranging from ranch gatherings to Ranching 101 education programs. Volunteers and staff traveled to nearly every county in Texas and many counties in Oklahoma. At these events, we had an opportunity to engage with 6,753 new and potential TSCRA members. We learned more about your operations but more im- portantly, we gained a better understanding about the issues that keep you and your family awake at night. We were fortunate to have the support of many hosts
and volunteers who helped identify locations and speak- ers, spreading the word about the event to other local members. We very much appreciate the time and effort
that our hosts and volunteers put into these events. In addition, Elanco Animal Health catered, cooked, or otherwise contributed to nearly every beef meal we served in 2016. We offer our sincere thanks to Elanco. TSCRA’s membership will total 20,000 or more by
December 2020. This goal was set by Joe Parker dur- ing his tenure as TSCRA president, and those of us on the Association Promotion Committee (which includes the TSCRA Board of Directors) intend to see it happen. We have 4 years to reach this target and have interim goals that will help us along the path to 20,000 mem- bers. We will announce the 2017 membership goal in a future issue of The Cattleman magazine. As of this writing, the 2017 calendar of events is
being assembled. You will be able to read about the dates and locations in The Cattleman magazine as well as The Cattleman Update daily emails. We hope that you will make plans to join TSCRA at one of the events in 2017. ❚
