SPECIALIST TILING PUT ON A SHOW
Vision Display Co-founder and Director Dave Akerman shares news of their latest tiling display products for external presentation.
With the current trend for outside living, tile and stone retailers ideally need to show their products off in their true environment: outside. It has been a long- standing tradition for high street tile retailers to want to use the pavement or forecourt areas to display their products, grabbing the eye of the passing trade and tempting the customer to come and take a closer look inside the showroom.
Until now, displaying tile and stone products externally has been tricky, as most displays for these products are manufactured from either timber-based materials (which tend to bow and rot) or metal-based items, which wear quite quickly when exposed to the elements, leading to unsightly rust and possible failure.
Following an extensive programme of new product development, Vision Display now have the answer to this problem with their new range of WET (waterproof exterior tile) displays. Manufactured from an exterior-grade, white PVC-based material, Vision can re-create many of their successful display designs in a form that will now withstand rain, snow and sun (on the odd occasions that we see some in the UK).
We were regularly getting phone calls from customers who needed something suitable for outside use and we really struggled with having a product to offer, often declining to sell our interior grade displays without a clear understanding from our customers that these displays would most likely fail within a relatively short period of time, with no come back to us if this happened. As a company, we always try our hardest to find a solution to every display problem presented, so we decided to carry out some product development in this area, with great success, due to the discovery of a new sheet material that is now available. Our WET range of displays is already proving to be a winner with customers who need to show products in pavement and forecourt areas, external garden centres and builders’ merchant’s yards and even some internal swimming pool locations, in fact, anywhere that has a high level of moisture or water in the environment.

The core product range utilises a very durable, PVC-based material, which is at present available in a white finish as standard. Price-wise, the raw material is naturally more expensive than conventional internal MDF, but this proves its worth in its long-term durability, with the PVC sheet
manufacturers giving a 10 year guarantee for external use. The material is also UV stable and 100% recyclable, making it a very green product for those who care about our environment.
If white is not your thing, it is possible for Vision to finish the material in alternative colours, however this obviously costs more as it’s a second process and they can’t give a guarantee that the finish won’t show signs of wear given its use and circumstances.

Where branding is important, we can also add backpanels supplied with exterior grade, full colour printed point of sale or logos applied, making this a very versatile exterior display range. We
are confident that these new products will help solve a problem for our customers in the tile and stone industry, and we are still working on additional products to help expand the WET range even further in due course.
The Vision WET range of external displays currently includes the full selection of cradle kits from the low version through to the tall version (and with all the bespoke options in-between as Vision normally offer), as well as the slotted base displays and a nice vertical waterfall display which is ideal for large floor tiles and pavers.
