SIMPLY THE BEST
OSCHR aim to boost levels of professionalism within the health and safety industry following the launch of their new Job Noticeboard system.
OSHCR, the UK’s Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register, has launched a new job noticeboard on their site in a bid to make it easier for businesses to advertise jobs directly to the professionals they are looking to hire. With few health and safety specific job boards in the UK, the OSHCR are trying to fill this gap.
THE INS & OUTS Any active OSHCR user will have access to the job noticeboard including businesses and consultants.
OSHCR’s registered consultants have experience in numerous industries from engineering, manufacturing and construction to waste management, fire services and railways. Topics of health and safety experience also vary, such as asbestos, biosafety and electrical safety.
All jobs posted on the new noticeboard contain details of the role, location and pricing, as well as contact details of the individual advertising the job to enable consultants to contact this person directly to discuss the role further.
A spokesperson from OSCHR commented: “Businesses can now rest assured that the consultant they are looking for possesses a certain

level of experience and chartered status with a professional body, by advertising their health and safety job vacancies with OSHCR.”
RAISING STANDARDS Ensuring health and safety in the workplace has never been more vital in the UK than today. Some shocking figures last year depict just how important it is for health and safety at work to be prioritised. Between 2014 and 2015, 142 workers were killed at work; 1.2 million working people suffered from an illness that was related to their occupation; 76,000 non-fatal injuries to employees were reported; 2,538 people died due to past asbestos exposure and a staggering 611,000 injuries occurred at work, according to the Labour Force Survey.
The costs to the British workforce for injuries and ill health relating to current-day working conditions are astounding. Every year in the UK, more than 600,000 workers are injured as a result of workplace accidents, and a further 500,000 workers are diagnosed with a new case of ill health which has either been caused or made worse by their occupation. This amounts to an
incredible cost of £14.3 billion per year caused by workplace injuries and illnesses. To keep these costs down in future, health and safety measures need to improve massively.
To tackle these statistics and encourage high standards in all workplaces, OSHCR has more than 1,800 consultants registered with them, all of which possess specific qualifications and experience. All OSHCR-registered health and safety consultants have achieved at least chartered status with IOSH, chartered membership with the BPS, CIEH or REHIS, fellow status with IIRSM, fellow status with BOHS, or fellow status with IEHF.
Furthermore, when registering with the new noticeboard system all consultants must declare that they are dedicated to continuous professional development, abide by their professional body’s code of conduct, provide appropriate health and safety advice and have professional indemnity insurance.
