FRONT OF HOUSE A MEETING OF MINDS
Workplace technology can help businesses run more smoothly and boost productivity, says Debra Ward Managing Director for EMEA at Condeco Software.
A survey by CoreNet Global and Cushman & Wakefield has revealed that 88% of EMEA corporate real estate professionals are actively investing in workplace improvements, and not surprisingly 95% are including workplace technology as part of those upgrades.
A report from world-leading professional services firm Accenture stated that the next logical step for large companies was to “start using technology not just as a way to improve their own internal processes, but also as a driving force for how they grow.”
Decision makers are quickly realising that embracing technology can not only help them use their costly office space more wisely but it can also boost productivity, collaboration and help foster cultural change in the workplace.
Despite overwhelming evidence, as seen in the Leesman Index 2015, some firms are failing to recognise the benefits tech can deliver to one of the core elements of business – meetings. A successful meeting brings staff together in a co-ordinated fashion, to a place where they can collaborate, brainstorm, and drive the strategic goals of a company.
Despite the importance of a successful meeting, nearly half of UK workers complain of wasted time. Forty-five per cent experience delays and interruptions due to IT issues. Additionally, approximately 14% regularly have meetings cancelled or rescheduled at the last minute, causing further interruptions and delays that reduce productivity.
It was in answer to this growing demand that we created our range of solutions at Condeco Software to help businesses provide an efficient, flexible working environment and smoothly manage meeting rooms and video conferences across global

by Condeco Software revealed that scheduled meeting rooms are left empty 20% of the time, despite being booked. This entails a real cost for businesses that see their space being used inefficiently and their staff unable to make the most of their potential. Additionally, many people feel compelled to book off-site meeting rooms resulting in unnecessary costs.

operations. Leading businesses are increasingly turning to technology to power change in the office – that is why we are working with over 30 of the FTSE 100 to help manage their workplace through technology.
It is estimated that unproductive meetings cost businesses $37bn every year. Double-booked meeting rooms or “no-shows”, for instance, affect not only productivity, but also have a direct link to staff morale. Team members now face stiff competition over meeting room booking, leading them to book rooms weeks in advance “just in case” and never use them, as well as “sharking” outside meeting rooms, waiting for them to become available.
This causes frustration and has a negative impact on productivity and motivation. A survey commissioned
An inefficient office not only damages productivity and team morale, but also has more long- term implications, as it can hinder the hiring of talent. The digitally native Generation Z is now entering the workforce and with competition so high, companies need to provide world-class offices to attract the very best talent and to retain them. These staff members will demand an agile, technology-driven working environment, so it is more important than ever before for firms to embrace technology.
These potential team members entering the job market will be the first true digital natives and they want more than just a good salary - they want businesses to understand their abilities and what motivates them. This does not mean they want fancy gizmos but an office geared up to the modern world of business, from remote working, to meetings, to conference calls spanning the globe.
Condeco Software is committed to producing the very best business tools in workspace scheduling. In order to support our growing blue chip client base worldwide we are creating market leading technology to help them retain their competitive edge. Condeco Software provides such technology to allow team members to schedule the working areas and collaboration space they need, where and when they need it.
