UPTIM(E) WESTWAY SERVICES
As well as needing to operate 24/7, datacentres consume vast amounts of energy through cooling. Westway has taken these two challenging components and developed a piece of software that monitors equipment energy usage and uses this information to optimise both energy consumption and plant maintenance.
Westway Services’ Uptim(e) software enables datacentres and other business critical environments to significantly improve their system reliability and reduce energy consumption. The algorithm-based software profiles energy use and predicts when equipment is likely to break down or need additional maintenance before it falls over.
The software works on the principle that when equipment is about to fail it often consumes more energy. If you think about your car at home if you don’t have it serviced regularly and parts start to fail, it often starts to use more fuel. It’s the same principle with this equipment. If it’s not been serviced or there is something that is ‘abnormal’ then the energy analysis will identify spiking or increased energy usage meaning it can be investigated and put it right.
In environments where Uptim(e) is installed customers have seen energy consumption reduced by between 5% and 15%.
Uptim(e) software reduces energy consumption, improves maintenance planning ensuring maximum availability of systems. The ability to combine cost reduction with an improvement
in
service levels is something often sought but rarely attained. It completes a hat trick of benefits by enabling customers to improve their environmental performance by reducing energy consumption.
