WHAT’S NEW? DEEPSTORE CELEBRATES
2.5M BOXES MILESTONE DeepStore, an underground storage company has increased the number of boxes it manages by 30% in the last five years, to 2.5 million.
To accommodate the growth, DeepStore is expanding by over 32,000m2
within Britain’s largest salt mine – in an
area called Bostock 2, which is equivalent to eight times the size of the Wembley football pitch.
The mine is owned and managed by DeepStore’s parent company, Compass Minerals, which has the capacity to mine 1.5 million tons of rock salt annually, 150 metres below the surface.
WATER IMPROVES WELLBEING
This World Health Day BRITA Vivreau, a global leader and innovator in the development and manufacture of purified drinking water systems, urged facilities managers to review how water is made available in their workplace.
Research has shown that losing just 2% of water from your body (on average consisting of 60%) can reduce cognitive performance, which can have an impact on health and even personal safety at work.
Stephen Charles, Managing Director at BRITA Vivreau explained: “Hydration can be easily overlooked in the workplace. However, drinking plenty of fluids can help improve concentration, combat fatigue and boost productivity.
One solution for businesses would be BRITA Vivreau’s stylish ViTap, which dispenses chilled, still, sparking and boiling hot water at the touch of a button.
Publishing company Springer Nature installed 30 ViTaps. Contracts Manager, John Haskell, said: “I would say that the ViTap system is one of the most used items of equipment that we have on the premises. With the proximity of the ViTap, staff are constantly topping up their bottles and taking them back to their desks, so they rehydrate on a regular basis.”

Craig Trimby, DeepStore's Head of Sales, said: “Achieving 2.5 million boxes and expanding into this new area is a major milestone for DeepStore. The new space enables the future growth of the business and, with the continuous rock salt mining activity, we have the capacity for future expansion into an area of over 500 million cubic feet, so we will never be short of space.”
The mine provides the ideal environment for storing documents as it has consistent temperature and humidity levels that meet the highest specification requirements for the storage of archival material. Its storage areas also are naturally free from ultraviolet light, vermin and flooding.
