MONITORS AND DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDERS FOR

CARE HOMES Vox Security Ltd’s Digital Video Recorder’s have their own hard disk drive (HDD) to capture images. These products have an advantage over the old style time lapse video recorders, as the tapes never have to be changed, with all the images saved straight to disk. When the disk is full the images overwrite the old data, enabling the DVR’s to have the facility of a date and time search.

This capacity means care homes do not have to spend countless hours searching through footage. Users can select the date and times of the footage required and transfer it to

either CD using an in-built CD writer, or to a USB memory stick.

DVR’s generally come with either four, eight, nine or 16 camera inputs and, depending on the model, up to four audio inputs. Most DVR’s have a standard video output which is a direct connection to the monitors, the DVR can then be connected to a computer or a computer network enabling it to be viewed from anywhere in the world. Users can also view the live images via their mobile phones.

The hard drive size is determined by how many cameras are on the system, the frame rate at which the DVR records and how long the images are to be stored, before being overwritten. These things will be discussed and determined at a site visit.

Vox also boast two types of monitors – the first of which is the traditional CRT monitor.

CRT monitors are known for their high resolution and extended service and are the choice for most nursing and residential care homes, as the clarity and sharpness of the image is one of the best available. It is also made specifically for CCTV systems.

The second option is a TFT or flat panel monitor which is relatively new to the CCTV market. The advantage of this type of monitor is that it is slimline and can be wall mountable using mounting brackets.
