10 QUESTIONS WITH... ZENA GODDARD

Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Zena Goddard, Head of Commercial Sales at SNG Commercial.

Q3 Q4

Q5 Q1

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? I’ve worked for as long as I can

remember – all the way from stuffing envelopes during the school holidays to bar work as I got older! After graduating from university, I joined a contract stationer as an Area Sales Manager; this was my first taste of working in a B2B market, which I still love now.

Q2

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?

I joined the office supplies industry at an exciting time during a rapid growth period within the cleaning and catering market. I moved through various roles, including marketing and promotions, giving me an insight into the trends and fastest developing areas of the cleaning market. I love the buzz and the huge opportunities the cleaning industry offers, so when I was asked to join a cleaning re-distributor I jumped at the chance. Through this extensive experience of working with re-distribution customers I was thrilled to be asked to join SNG at such an exciting point in the company’s development.

WHICH THREE WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR

PERSONALITY? Driven, motivated and reliable.

IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD,

WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY? Australia – definitely. I’d love to swim in the Great Barrier Reef.

HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE CLEANING

INDUSTRY? I think the cleaning industry needs to be more reactive and receptive to new ideas. It’s still a very traditional industry that takes time to accept new concepts and opportunities. Being more receptive to new ideas and being able to action them quickly would be hugely beneficial to the industry as a whole. Science and technology is changing the face of modern business and it would be great to see the cleaning industry embrace these changes and see them as new opportunities, integrating them fully into their traditional business models.

Q6 Q7

IF AN INTERN WERE TO START TOMORROW,

WHAT’S THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE THEM? Don’t be put off by anyone telling you ‘that’s the way we’ve always done it’. Change is good. If something needs changing – change it!

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY TOMORROW, HOW WOULD

YOU SPEND YOUR FORTUNE? Helping as many people as I could – starting with my family and friends.

I would love to start a foundation to finance cancer medications not funded by the NHS.

Q8

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY AND INVITE

ANY THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR

ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? I’d invite Stephen Fry because he would be a lot of fun, Terry Pratchett for his unbeatable story-telling and my Grandma because she would have loved it.

Q9

WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE FUTURE OF THE

CLEANING INDUSTRY? I think the cleaning industry is on the precipice of a long overdue face-lift, which comes from businesses which are not traditionally considered to be cleaning or facility companies chipping away at the traditional market place. These newer introductions are placing a spotlight on the traditional model within the overall cleaning market. Every element of the customer experience is now analysed and it is no longer enough to look at providing the best price, the best service and delivery options across the board also have to be spot on too.

Alex Wyers, Joint Managing Director at Floorbrite Cleaning & Facilities Services, asks:

Q10

WHAT ARE THE MOST PRESSING ISSUES

FACING YOUR BUSINESS IN 2016? 2016 is definitely a year of opportunity and positivity for SNG. We’re committed to providing companies with the highest quality products throughout our Muvo, Senses and Moss & Rowe brands. All of these come with exceptional packaging options, at the very best market price points. While our competitors are good, we have to ensure that we remain the better option.
