CHEMICALS & DOSING EQUIPMENT
We hear from Ideal Manufacturing, who explain their views on why commercial laundries can benefit from the chemical formulations of their powder technology, delivering consistent performance and annual cost savings.
Ideal was founded in 1980 by Dr Mike Kalli, whose revolutionary principle to formulate the first ‘fully built’ powder detergent to boost laundry plant efficiency using new concepts in detergent chemistry soon established the company as a pioneer in British laundry chemical manufacture.
According to Dr Kalli: “The commercial laundry industry has seen some dramatic transformations in the last thirty years, notably as a result of acquisition, the de-skilling of processing personnel and automation. We have seen a transformation in the way laundry chemicals are managed. Staff have become deskilled and washrooms have become reliant on liquid dosing systems that are managed and serviced by an external supplier. Increased automation has resulted in operators and laundry production staff acquiring a ‘push-button’ mentality.”
Suppliers increasingly offer contracts that include injection systems for their complicated range of liquid ancillary products. This is backed by a formal commitment to routine and emergency servicing. In-house skills have been lost so crucial areas of production are controlled by external suppliers who may be many hours away when problems arise.
Dr Kalli believes: “It’s time to realign our thinking.
“At present, many washrooms work with a wide range of products – detergents, boosters, oxidising agents, emulsifiers, softeners and sours, starches and antichlor. Some will also use enzyme solutions and optical brighteners. Of course, Ideal can supply all of these products but our thinking on the way to achieve the optimum chemistry for the best interest of the commercial laundry has changed and we have returned to the use of powder technology.”

by engineering an efficient, reliable powder injection system. Then, just one powder, Ideal’s Professional Plus (Pp) – (a finalist in the Tomorrow’s Cleaning Product Awards 2016) and a gentle sour are sufficient for good results on most classifications. Where the work has specific staining or heavy soiling, additional products can be injected, if absolutely necessary. In this way washrooms can achieve the highest standards of soil removal, simply and economically and stock management becomes far easier.
Dr Kalli added: “Furthermore, we can guarantee an annual saving in chemical costs. We are regularly advised that the chemical costs for a commercial laundry can be between 3.5-5% of a laundry’s turnover but we can reduce this significantly.
“Test results at one of the largest independent laundries in London have shown that consistent high quality
laundry processing can be achieved using our effective powder injection equipment and by simplifying the traditional multi-product requirement to Professional Plus (Pp) – a single concentrated ‘built’ powder, along with the application of a gentle sour for the majority of classifications.”
PROFESSIONAL PLUS (PP) With Professional Plus (Pp) powder, Ideal is able to offer a single, comprehensive, modern and environmentally friendly laundry powder that will ensure the highest standard of professional results, even at low temperatures.
Professional Plus replaces the plethora of chemicals that can cause problems with maintenance, space, stock holding, costing and accuracy of control.
It is a phosphate free, multi ingredient formulation – built for total professional laundry action, powerful cleaning and heavy stain removal. Not only this, it is a free flowing powder for both manual and automatic feed through the Ideal Powder Injection System, designed as a single shot powder product for exceptional laundry results across the board.
With a cool, fresh fragrance, built-in oxidising agent, accelerated destainer as well as effective suspension and anti-redeposition characteristics, it ensures outstanding quality and value, with proven results from the smallest domestic machine to the largest industrial tunnel washer.
Initially aimed at larger commercial laundry plants, Ideal have found that Professional Plus (Pp) also has wider application in smaller laundry situations – with incredible results achieved on domestic laundry.
