The Preparation Group’s Training Centre is a large facility dedicated to surface preparation, removal & finishing. It gives visitors the opportunity for hands-on practical training on a 300m2


area comprising of custom


built floor ‘pads’, each with differing materials that evolve throughout the year. Delegates can experience a wide variety of applications and processes through the principles of shotblasting, planing, multi-stripping, grinding, polishing and cleaning.


In addition to hosting a number of practical courses, The Preparation Group’s centre also allows manufacturers to trial materials or to demonstrate how to prepare floors prior to the application/installation of their flooring systems; be it removing self levellers, paint, broken down screeds etc.

The main subjects the course covers are: An Introduction to Surface Preparation, Grinding and Polishing Techniques, Floor Refurbishment and Cleaning, Basic Equipment Maintenance, Preparing Steel and Surface Re-texturing.


An Introduction to Surface Preparation - Provides an induction for delegates unfamiliar with surface preparation, removal and finishing equipment and the types of conditions suited to different methods. Tuition covers shotblasting, planing, grinding and multi-stripping, the machines and accessories available and the do’s and don’ts.


Grinding and Polishing Techniques – Demonstrates grinding equipment and diamond capabilities and how to achieve a polished floor, enabling flooring contractors to add a new skill and to diversify into this specialist sector. Teaches stage by stage polishing techniques, types of diamonds and how to use them on manufacturers’ products or across a selection of surfaces.


The Preparation Group’s training is bespoke and all of its courses can be tailored to suit individual business needs and objectives and are 100% relevant, such as focussing on a particular surface, type of equipment or process. Courses are aimed at flooring contractors, installers/tilers, material manufacturers and contract cleaners wanting to understand, for example, what to do when faced with a difficult floor removal project, or for those wishing to expand their knowledge on how to treat, clean and restore different surfaces using 'green' technology. All subjects are designed to improve productivity, to enable a high- quality finish and to ensure customer satisfaction on all installations;

Machine Maintenance and Operation – Enables engineers to fault find, carry out specific checks and implement repairs to ensure equipment reliability. Suitable for Maintenance Engineers with the responsibility of servicing and repairing equipment. Gives instruction on how to conduct safe and efficient maintenance, to keep equipment in optimum condition in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.


The Preparation Group is the only surface preparation company to have won FeRFA’s Trainer of the Year Award. All subjects cost from only £95 per delegate per day and are taught by an industry expert and qualified trainer- the same trainer that teaches FeRFA’a NVQ Level 2 diploma in Specialist Floor Preparation. Courses are focused, cost- effective and candidates can also bring their own machines and tools with them.
