CASE STUDY: SIKAFLOOR KEEPS THE PRESSES ROLLING AT LABEL FACTORY of a hard-wearing

and fast-applied flooring solution from Sika was provided to an award-winning printing company in Leicester to create a replacement floor that offers long- term performance and durability with minimal disruption during installation.

When Label Apeel purchased an old hosiery factory in Thurmaston, near Leicester, they found that the production floors were pitted, in poor condition and required a complete overhaul. With only two weeks to replace the concrete floor, specialist contractor Central Flooring Services Ltd worked with the client recommending a high-performance flooring solution from Sika that would meet their requirements for durability and timescale.

With the floors subjected to considerable daily impact from machinery, forklift trucks and footfall, the Sika flooring system proved ideal. After shot-blasting the existing surface and applying the highly resistant Sikafloor 161 primer, Central Flooring installed more than 1,700m2

of the

fast-setting Sikafloor Level 30 mortar by pump, in one day, to level the surface of the factory floor.

This was then topped off with two coats of Sikafloor 264 to create an aesthetically-appealing finish prior to the reinstatement of expansion joints.

Richard Jinks, Central Flooring Services Ltd, said: “The client was

looking for a quick and effective solution due to the exceptionally poor condition of the factory floor.

“The Sika specification ticked all their boxes for aesthetics, heavy usage and an ultra-fast application.”

Extremely tough and durable and with a life expectancy to match, Sika’s flooring systems are designed to fulfil an almost endless combination of functional and aesthetic requirements and meet all industry requirements for mechanical- and chemical-resistance, impermeability and fire-resistance.

As an alternative to traditional finishes, Sika flooring systems can serve any number of specifier demands on a wide range of projects. Joint-free and easy to maintain, they are an ideal choice to meet the high aesthetic requirements of commercial and public buildings and can be used in schools, offices, retail, leisure as well as meeting the strict hygiene standards of the healthcare industry.

They are also an ideal choice to meet the demands of manufacturing facilities, airports and shopping malls where a durable floor is a must.

Having met the client’s limited timeframe and performance requirements, the Sika specification delivered a hard-wearing flooring system that has guaranteed outstanding durability and longevity.
