EXPONA FLOORING HELPS REFURBISHED SCHOOL HALL KEEP
ITS TRADITIONAL LOOK Wood effect luxury vinyl tiles from Polyflor’s Expona Design PUR collection were the perfect choice of flooring for a school hall refurbishment project at Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools in Edinburgh.
Approximately 315m² of Expona Design PUR luxury vinyl tiles in the Walnut design were installed by Forever Flooring of Broxburn, Mid Lothian at the independent school. The school hall needed to be refurbished, and as Expona Design flooring was performing well elsewhere in the building, the same luxury vinyl tile range was selected for this space.
The traditional Walnut design authentically reproduces the appearance of natural wood and features rich dark tones which fit in perfectly with the style of the old Victorian building. The flooring contractor also expertly installed full plank perimeter detail with bespoke inlay strip supplied by Polyflor’s Design Service.
Featuring 28 stunning wood, stone and abstract effects, the heavy commercial Expona Design PUR luxury vinyl tile collection will provide years of performance in education environments where there are high levels of foot traffic. These hard wearing luxury vinyl tiles have a 3.0mm gauge, 0.7mm wear layer and are enhanced with Polyflor’s exclusive and robust PUR polyurethane reinforcement which is cross
linked and UV cured to provide a fuss-free cleaning and maintenance regime.
Expona Design’s environmental credentials are impressive, achieving a BRE A+ rating for major use areas in the education sector and Indoor Air Comfort Gold, assuring that VOC emissions are below any globally determined levels.
Polyflor’s recently launched education brochure demonstrates how vinyl can be the perfect flooring solution for education environments, from nurseries to universities. To order your free copy or read online, visit the Polyflor website.

CROSSGRIP PVC MATTING PROTECTS
ROOF WORKERS Crossgrip roof walkway matting was laid on the roof of a well-known Scottish shopping centre, The Centre Livingston, in order to provide safe access to the personnel for rooftop maintenance services.
The matting features a R10 certified slip resistant surface under DIN 51130 and a two layer open grid construction for drainage. It is loose laid and supplied in rolls of up to 10m lengths, which means a drastic reduction in installation time.
Crossgrip matting has also been tested for wind resistance at the University of Hertfordshire. Tests showed that, when laid on a stable platform, the matting remains in place in wind speeds up to 94mph (150 km/h).
Furthermore, as it is made from flexible PVC, the matting easily contours to the roof structure, as well as being UV resistant.
Craig Young, technical services manager at the Centre Livingston, said: “We selected Crossgrip because of the ease of installation, its non-slip properties, reduced amount of labour for installation and the wind tunnel testing report for lifting.” When asked if it was easy to install, he replied: “Yes it was basically a roll out installation, easy to cut and connect together.”
The matting can be supplied in 60cm, 91cm or 122cm widths and Light Grey and Black colours. Other colours may be available on request.
