A FRESH TAKE

Desso’s Fuse and Fields flooring has created a contemporary and vibrant look for the new NBS offices in a historic site.

For over 40 years, National Building Specification (NBS) has been a highly regarded and widely recognised standard for specification. Today it is at the forefront of BIM development and adoption. In December 2016, as the business continued to grow, the company set about investing over £5.8m redeveloping its home, a grade ll listed building in Newcastle, The Old Post Office.

Dating back to the 1870’s, the iconic building was originally built as the main post office in Newcastle. A full refurbishment was required to meet the demands of this thriving business. Ward Robinson Ltd was appointed to design the interiors of the project and turned to Desso to supply the flooring.

Desso’s Fuse and Fields carpet tiles were selected to create a bold and vibrant design, which would allow the character of the listed building to shine through, rather than competing with it. Desso supplied 2,370m2

of Fuse and

Fields tiles to be installed throughout the building.

A warm grey colour palette was selected to provide a neutral backdrop for the brighter punches of colour used in the furniture and the dramatic graphic wall- coverings used on the feature walls. The colours were also chosen to tie in with the newly launched NBS branding.

“Working with listed buildings can be challenging, however blending the character of the old building with a new, fresh and contemporary interior scheme was incredibly rewarding,” commented Jackie Dent, director at Ward Robinson Ltd.

“I have worked with Desso for many

years and I chose this brand again because, as well as the product being just right for the project, I know and trust the quality of Desso products. The finished result looks fantastic!”

Desso Fields is available in 16 colour combinations, while Desso Fuse is available in seven. Both collections come with DESSO EcoBase as standard backing.
