from the desk of the executive director

Following the decision-making process outlined on the previous page, any ques- tions, concerns or ideas for program improvement should be shared with the applicable WSMA committee or WSMA staff member by contacting WSMA. You may find the listing on this page of some of the WSMA personnel and their responsibilities helpful when contacting WSMA.

After you have contacted WSMA, the applicable committee and/or WSMA staff member will determine how best to re- spond to your questions, concerns or ideas for program improvement. Any proposed changes to programming, rules, policies, school classifications, etc. by a WSMA committee will then be sent to the WSMA Board of Directors for discussion and a decision on those proposed changes.

Know that your colleagues serving on WSMA committees and the WSMA staff need and want your input on ways to im- prove WSMA programs and services for students and teachers at WSMA member schools. Understanding the WSMA gov- ernance structure will help you to find the most effective way to provide WSMA and/or a WSMA committee with your questions, concerns or ideas for improving programs and services.

In closing, I want to remind you that as executive director of WSMA, WMEA and WFSM, I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility to meet the needs of Wisconsin schools, music educators and the students they serve. As such, do not hesitate to contact me with your thoughts and ideas on how the associations and foundation might further develop our partnership with you. Know I am just a telephone call or email away. Better yet, the next time you are in the Madison area, make a stop in Waunakee and visit with me personally at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education!

Timothy J. Schaid, Ph.D., is executive director of WSMA – WMEA – WFSM at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education. Email: schaidt@wsmamusic.org. Telephone: 608-850-3566, ext. 1019.
