3 COSMOSIL SFC Columns


Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) can offer advantages over HPLC, such as high speed, unique selectivity and environmentally friendly separations. Conventional normal- phase stationary phases, such as diol, amino and cyano have limitations when used for SFC.


Nacalai Tesque has developed a range of columns designed specifically for SFC. These include COSMOSIL HP (3-hydroxyphenyl group), COSMOSIL PY (pyridinyl group) and COSMOSIL Quinoline. In addition, the HPLC columns COSMOSIL Cholester and COSMOSIL PBr (pentabromobenzyl group) are also recommended for SFC.


COSMOSIL HP and PY elute hydrophobic compounds first and retain hydrophilic compounds longer, whereas PBr elutes compounds in the reverse order. COSMOSIL Quinoline is particularly useful for the separation of polar lipid structural isomers, such as cholesterol and related analogues. COSMOSIL Cholester exhibits strong retention for fat-soluble vitamins and their impurities.
