Youngsters earn while they learn

Y

OUNG people are getting a great start to their careers thanks to YourPlace.

Our Modern Apprenticeship scheme demonstrates our commitment to supporting young people into jobs and training. We currently have three apprentices in the YourPlace team. The scheme provides more than

invaluable work experience and on- the-job training, youngsters can also work towards a nationally-recognised qualification. More than 10 per cent of the YourPlace

team are former apprentices who have gone on to secure permanent jobs. Lori McCann, 16, joined YourPlace in January last year. Lori is now part of a project aiming to build a sense of community at the site of the former 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village. Homeowners and tenants are being

helped to form residents’ groups and get to know each other. Lori said: “Since joining YourPlace I’ve benefited from a lot of training. During this time I’ve also learned how to work in a team, work under pressure and work to deadlines. “I’m really enjoying working with customers. The best part of my job is being able to help customers to maintain their property.” Susan Mackie, YourPlace Service Improvement Lead, said: “We do everything we can to help the young people develop their careers. “We work closely with them to improve their skills and capabilities to help them complete their apprenticeship. “It’s a win-win situation as YourPlace benefits from these skilled young people once they are qualified.”
