would be an understatement. His name might not be Solheim, but over the past 45 years, Hawken also has become synonymous with PING. Now, his tenure is nearing its conclusion. Hawken, who has served as
the right arm of the PING family, has announced that he will retire from the Phoenix equipment maker, ending a distinguished career, effective Jan. 31. He will remain on the PING board of directors. “I’m proud to be associated with
a company that puts the well-being of its employees and their families above all else,” said Hawken, who started near the bottom of the PING chain and worked his way up to president and chief operating officer. “It was a hard decision (to retire)
because I have a personal attachment to the employees here at PING. They’re my family, and I’m really going to miss working with them on a daily basis. We have accomplished so much together.” His leadership has extended to
all facets of the company and PING president and CEO John Solheim is quick to acknowledge Hawken’s contributions. “I speak for the entire Solheim
and PING families when I say how extremely grateful we are for the impact Doug has had on the company in the last 45 years,” John Solheim said. “His accomplishments are too long
to list, but we all agree his leadership and contributions are evident company- wide. He’s led countless efforts and initiatives to help build PING into the industry-leading company we are today.”
