Natural History Museum to host Museum of the Moon for exclusive space
Summer 2019 will see the spectacular Museum of the Moon, by artist Luke Jerram, installed in London’s Natural History Museum.
From Friday 17th May until Sunday 8th September 2019, event organisers will have the exclusive opportunity to host their events under the incredible moon.
The world renowned art installation, measuring six metres in diameter, features detailed NASA imagery to perfectly recreate the moon’s surface. Since its launch in Bristol in 2016, Jerram’s moon has been enjoyed at festivals, sporting events and in public spaces by thousands of awe-struck visitors from across the globe.
By day, the art installation will be part of the Museum’s temporary exhibitions. After hours, however, event guests can dance the night away underneath the mesmerising lunar glow.
Museum of the Moon will take centre stage in the stripped back Jerwood Gallery. The gallery’s gilt and terracotta ceiling panels and stained glass windows along with the moon will provide an elegant backdrop for summer events; from weddings and summer parties to dinners and networking events.
On arrival, guests can enjoy a drinks reception in the summer sun in the modern Darwin Centre courtyard, before moving through to the stunning nineteenth-century Waterhouse

The unique space seats up to 300 for dinner and will be available from 18:00 – 00:00 for private hire (guests may extend the hire until 03:00 subject to availability and an additional fee).
The Natural History Museum’s extensive list of experienced suppliers will also be on hand to transform the space to bespoke specifications. Complementing the moon through beautifully themed catering, floristry and production, the suppliers will create an extraordinary experience for guests.
Luke Jerram commented: “I’m very proud to be bringing Museum of the Moon to a space as iconic and prestigious as the Natural History Museum. The museum puts research of the natural world at the heart of its work, making it the perfect home for the moon next summer.” It will be the first time that the installation has featured in private parties and events, so I’m excited to see how the space will be adapted and utilised over the course of its time at the Museum.”
Luke Jerram’s multidisciplinary practice involves the creation of sculptures, installations and live arts projects. The Museum of the Moon was inspired by living in Bristol and noticing the huge

tidal variation as he cycled over the Avon Cut each day.
Experienced by more than 2.5 million people worldwide, the artwork has recently toured India with the British Council, been presented at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and exhibited in Aarhus, Denmark, for the European Capital of Culture.
