News Flytippers traced and fined
TWO flytippers who dumped rubbish in country lanes in Malling after being paid to dispose of it have each been ordered to pay more than £1,000. Richard Mayhew, of Boxley, de-
nied flytipping at Sevenoaks Magis- trates court butwas found guilty. The court heard that Mayhew,
owner of Rusty’s scrap metal collec- tion and waste removal, collected waste including a mattress, bed base, wooden joists, pictures, black sacks and other household rubbish, from a house in Wateringbury in March last year. A few days later, a Ton- bridge and Malling Council officer found fly-tipped waste in Old Chatham Road, off Blue Bell Hill. Items were traced back to the
house in Wateringbury and the householder confirmed the details of thewaste carrier she had paid to dis- pose of them. An Environment Agency public register check confirmed that neither Mayhew nor Rusty’s were listed as registered waste carriers. However,

Stamp fair
THE next East Malling Grand Stamp Fair will be held at the vil- lage hall in New Road, from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday, May 27.
Fourteen dealers will have tables

A WIDE range of flowering and vegetable plants will be available at a plant sale in the car park at the Brassey Centre, Station Road, Aylesford, on Saturday, June 3. in April, 2016, and two days later in Brook Lane, Snodland, Sevenoaks Magistrates court heard. Tonbridge and Malling Council officers traced the waste from both places back to a house in Larkfield, and the householder confirmed that they had paid Ashley to dispose of thewaste. Hewas fined £600 for each offence
with £700 legal costs, £308 clear- up/compensation costs and a victim surcharge of £60 for each offence. Robert Styles, the borough coun-
cil’s director of street scene, said: “Fly-tipping is a crime – it is anti social, unsightly and hazardous and will not be tolerated in Tonbridge and Malling. The estimated cost of clearing up fly-tipping for 2015-2016 was £31,860 – money that would have been much better spent on services for our residents.”
Vandalised defibrillator is replaced
A DEFIBRILLATOR onWoodlands Road, Ditton has been replaced after it was vandalised three months ago. Tonbridge and Malling Cllr Ben
Walker, was involved with other members of the community in the effort to get the original equipment installed. He said: “This is the only 24/7, community accessible defibrillator in our village, making Ditton a safer and better community to live in. Police destroy seized scooter
A SCOOTER being ridden in an “antisocial” manner in Ditton has been seized and destroyed by Kent Police. Officers were called to Ditton
Court Quarry, where two people were seen driving the bike. A Kent Police statement said:
“They were then reported to have driven it onto Ditton Recre- ation Ground and on the foot- paths leading into Pear Tree Avenue. “Police attended and located
the scooter which had been abandoned. Following en- quiries, the scooter was subse-
quently destroyed.” Kent Police Sergeant Joanne
Mott, of the Tonbridge and Malling Community Safety Unit said: “Kent Police will not toler- ate anti-social behaviour and in particular vehicles used to cause alarm and or distress to other members of the public which is why we took action to seize this scooter and have it destroyed. “I would always encourage anyone who witnesses anti-so- cial behaviour to report it by calling Kent Police on 101. “Remember in an emergency always call 999.”
