What’s On Malling & district clubs, societies & activities


IT IS never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of interests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Details of regular meetings are listed on this page.

Saturday May 20


Summer Concert – Music in the Royal British Legion Village. All welcome to RBLI’s free summer concert held in the beautiful Garden of Honour, Aylesford. Starts at 2.30pm. Friday May 26 Afternoon Tea in Trottiscliffe village hall, 2.30pm. All welcome.


Saturday May 27


East Malling Grand Stamp Fair will be held at East Malling village hall, New Road, East Malling, 9.30am to 3.30pm. Free admission and everyone welcome.There will be 14 dealers’ tables in the large hall and stamp displays on the stage, as well as refreshments and free car parking.


Sunday May 28 West Malling Farmers’ Market from 9.30am to 1.30pm, High Street, West Malling.


Sunday May 28 and June 25 The Twitch Heritage Centre, Douce’s Manor, St. Leonard’s Street, West Malling, will be open from 11am to 4pm. Visitors, please note - Douce’s Manor is a private residence; the house and grounds are not open to the public. Parking on St. Leonard’s Street.


Tuesday June 13


East Malling Research Station Music Club presents Piano Wizards: Mary Methuen’s prize- winners on her Steinway Grand. Jinah Shim will play Beethoven’s Pastoral Sonata Op.28 and Liszt’s Ballade No.2 in Bm. Xiaoyun Lim will entertain with Haydn’s Fm variations, two Debussy preludes, Chopin’s Scherzo No.3 and Rachmaninoff’s Etude Op39 no9.


Starts at 7.30pm at Pilsdon Barn, Water Lane, West Malling.

Saturday June 17 Ryarsh Village Fete


There will be all the traditional fete events - coconut shy, beer


tent, archery, live music, hog roast and much, much more to entertain all the family, from 1 to 5pm. This year the chosen charities are Kent Air Ambulance and Leybourne Grange Riding School for the Disabled.


Saturday June 27 Mereworth Village Fete starts at 2pm in the Queen Elizabeth Field, The Street. Attractions include a grand draw, tombola, children’s games and entertainer, refreshments and lots of stalls. Ample free parking, access via the gate off the A228.

East Malling Singers - Music from the deep south of America to the deep south of Africa. John Rutter's Feel The Spirit and Songs of a Rainbow Nation. Saturday July 15 Open Air Concert. St Peter and St Paul, Leybourne, presents Danny as Michael Jackson. Fundraising open air concert, in the grounds of Leybourne Castle, for the church’s improvement fund. Gates open at 5pm, Children’s entertainment from 6pm, tribute act from 7.30pm.

Chip Productions Drama Group meets Fridays at 7.30pm at West Malling village hall.


Malling Photographic Society meets every Tuesday at West Malling village hall at 8pm.


The Heath Players meet at the East Malling Institute, Mill Street, at 8pm on Fridays.


Malling Rotary meets Tuesdays at 6.30pm at Spadework, Teston Road, Offham.


Spadework Farmers’ Market is on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm at Spadework, Teston Road. For more details, see www.spadework.net.


Malling Community Choir meets every Tuesday at West Malling Baptist Church, 7.15pm to 8.45pm. £2 per adult, children free.


Wateringbury Flower Club meets every third Wednesday of the month (with the exception of June) at The Institute Hall, East Malling, doors open at 7.00pm for start at 7.45pm.


Malling Stamp Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Clout Institute, West Malling High Street, at 7.30pm.


East Malling Women’s Institute meets at the East Malling Institute behind the King and Queen pub on the third Monday of every month, 7.45pm to 9.45pm.


LeyARA meets on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm at the Leybourne Village Hall. Speaker, raffle and refreshments.


Crafty Chin-waggers. Craft and chat meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. 19:30 to 23:00 in the Village Hall, Butchers Lane, Mereworth.


Craft and chat group Drop-in. Wednesdays, 10am to noon, East Malling Centre, East Malling.


Malling Art Society meets every Thursday at Offham village hall, 8pm to 10pm.


Malling District U3A Monthly meetings are held at Ryarsh village hall, starting at 2pm, on the fourth Tuesday of the month throughout the year.


Baby and toddler group meets every Wednesday at St James the Great, East Malling. Lots of fun for all children and babies. Starts at 1.30pm.


Mereworth church children’s choir meets every Wednesday. The children’s choir is a free after- school group which rehearses at 6.30pm. Parents welcome. Conductor: Stephen Thomas, 01732 321114. Y1 and up – no need to pre-book.


Addington Bridge Club meets every Tuesday from 7pm in the sports pavilion, Park Road.


Junior ParkRun The Manor Park, West Malling, Junior ParkRun starts at 9am with a series of 2k runs for children aged four to14, every Sunday.


Adult 5k runs


Leybourne Lakes Country Park, Larkfield. Adult 5k runs are held every Saturday, starting at 9am.


The runs are free of charge. All you need to do is register your details at: www.parkrun.org.uk/register
