Friends work together in marathon challenge

TWO mums from Snodland, who made a pact to run the London Marathon together, completed the 26.2 mile course and have raised nearly £5,000 for charity. After last year’s event, Lauren

Whale asked Sue Pritchard to help her train and run the marathon, as one of 40 things she wanted to do for her 40th birthday year. Sue, who had previously run in

2011, took up the challenge and the pair became part of the team for the Brain Research Trust. It is a charity close to Sue’s heart as her father died in 2009 from an incurable neu- rological condition called ataxia. “It was an amazing experience,”

said Lauren, who is 40 this month. “The support from everyone along the course, including family, friends and complete strangers, was phe- nomenal. It really helps to keep you going.” Sue (45) said: “The sheer scale of

this event, and all the emotions in- volved, is truly mind-blowing. It was a privilege to experience this once again, as well as helping a friend to achieve one of her lifetime

ambitions and raise money for a wonderful cause along theway.” They thanked the hundreds of people who have supported their fundraising through sponsorship or donating their time and prizes for competitions. Over the past seven months, Sue and Lauren have worked to raise

awareness of the charity’s work. They were supported by Dame Kelly Holmes and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch. They even managed to appear in Sport England’s This Girl Can TV ad campaign. To donate or find out more, see: www.justgiving.com/fundrais- ing/Lauren-and-Sue-VLM2017.
