Where I live...
West Malling Parish Council Village Green The parish council is most grateful to Peter Cosier for his thoughtful planting and care throughout the seasons to our Village Green. Visitors and shoppers often enjoy a pleasant lunchtime break sitting on the seat. Is there anyone that could give Peter a hand in pulling up the odd weed and trimming plants? It is not hard work or a big commitment, but one that would be much appreciated. Please
WEST MALLING NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN HELP NEEDED IN SHAPING OUR FUTURE
COULD you help shape West Malling over the next 15 to 20 years? West Malling Parish Council is looking for volunteers to put together the Neighbourhood Plan. You may have particular skills that would be really valuable or you may just be interested in how the town develops and the need to protect its unique features.
Neighbourhood Plans, once adopted by the borough council, are part of the statutory planning framework and can be used to decide where and what type of development should happen.
The plan can look at things such as housing; provision for businesses to set up or expand; transport including cycling; protection and creation of green spaces; renewable energy and community facilities.
The Neighbourhood Plan cannot conflict with the borough’s Local Plan (currently in draft) but it can include additional policies such as standards of design.
Understanding the views and needs of the community is a big part of the neighbourhood planning process so there will be extensive engagement and consultation with those living and working in West Malling.

What could be nicer than strolling along your ancient Village Green to the shops, looking at the flowers and sitting on the seat for lunch?
Pulling up the odd weed, trimming badly behaved and rude shoots of plants and
chatting to passers-by, could make it even more pleasant.
Without any hard work or commitment. I would greatly appreciate a bit of this kind of help on the flowerbed.

Macey's Meadow Despite the wet and chilly April evening, a group of enthusiasts enjoyed the Bat Watch and Bird Song Walk at Macey's Meadow, Noman Road. The interesting walk through the meadow concluded in the bird song at dusk.
Working parties Volunteer working party
weekends at Macey’s Meadow continue throughout the summer on the following dates: May 6 and 20; June 3rd and 17; July 1, 15 and 29; August 12 and 26, from 10am to 12 noon. Helpers are needed to keep the growth under control and all tools are provided. Meet at the container near the mixed woodland. Follow their progress on Facebook and Twitter.
Have your say on retirement village plan
A PROPOSAL for a retirement village of more than 70 apartments and “cottages” was overwhelmingly opposed by the 40-plus people who attended a public meeting arranged by West Malling Parish Council on April 18 at West Malling Primary School.
Members of the public objected to the use of Green Belt land for housing, and felt there were enough properties to cater for retired people in West Malling already.
A number of residents said the greatest housing need in West Malling was for affordable housing for younger families.
Objections also related to the size and design of the apartment blocks proposed for the London Road site.
Can you help?
However the application is an outline one only and therefore the details of such things as parking, and building design provided by the developer were for illustrative purposes only.
The parish council, which is a consultee on the application, has responded to the borough council that it opposes the application on the basis that there is no demonstrated community need for housing of this type to justify development of Green Belt land where it would be an inappropriate use.
Richard Selkirk, chairman of the planning committee, urged residents to send their views to Tonbridge and Malling Council, quoting reference TM//17/0509.
