San Antonio Stock Show S.A.L.E - Cont from page 7

Every year after the final speech round, the winning contestant is pre- sented with a $10,000 scholarship. This year, that scholarship was pre- sented to Kate McNeill, a freshman from Pleasanton, TX, and a member of the Atascosa County Equine En- thusiasts 4H club. McNeill is very active with horses as she also partici- pates in high school rodeos and horse judging contests. After high school, McNeill plans to attend Texas A&M University, and so far is undecided between studying human or veterinary medicine. The Quarter Horse, Paint Horse and Open Horse Shows were held February 17-18 with $20,000 to $30,000 in scholarships awarded during each show.

Paige Ogle, a senior of Navasota, TX, rode the horse Invite The Magic to become the AQHA Western High Point Exhibitor. Be- ing awarded a scholarship like this felt amaz- ing for Ogle, and she is very grateful as all of her work towards the show paid off. Outside of horse shows, Ogle is also part of the Col- lege Station High School dance/drill team and National Honors Society. Ogle plans to attend Texas A&M University to major in education. The AQHA English High Point Exhibitor was Erin McCluskey, a senior from Houston, who rode the horse Reinvest in Beauty. Mc- Cluskey got the horse when Reinvest in Beauty was only 3 years old and was ecstatic to have won the scholarship as training her horse was a long journey. After high school, McCluskey wants to study education at Texas A&M Uni- versity.

Faith Dugdale, a senior from Fort Worth, TX, rode her horse Up The Charisma to be- come the APHA Western High Point Exhibitor. Dugdale had been working very hard to earn this particular scholarship, showing at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo since she was 8. When she’s not riding, Dugdale sings in her church choir and works in the worship minis- try. She hopes to attend Christ for the Nations Institute to major in worship, as well as Dallas Baptist University to major in equine science. The APHA English High Point Exhibitor was Reagan Jennings, a freshman from Col- lege Station High School, riding her horse Ca- dets Honor. Jennings was both surprised and

The third recipient of the Paint Show Scholarships was Sabine Lazo, a freshman from Caldwell, who rode The Ultimate At- titude to become the All-Around High Point Exhibitor. Lazo enjoys showing The Ultimate Attitude as she feels every show is an achieve- ment as they gain knowledge and experience. Lazo is very active not just showing horses, but also in various UIL clubs, her school dra- ma club, and Caldwell 4H and FFA. She hopes to earn a degree in the communications field from UT Austin.

Raygan Follis, is a freshman from Col-

leyville, TX, and she rode her horse Mr. Cool Zippo to become the All Breed Western High Point Exhibitor. When it comes to winning the scholarship, Follis says that her horse is very hardworking and she feels very proud of both herself and her horse. Currently, she is still de- ciding on degree plans and universities. The All Breed English High Point Ex- hibitor was Kerah Pendergraft, a senior from Aubrey, TX. Pendergraft says this scholarship means the world to her as this is only the third show she has competed in with the horse Sexy and Sensational. Outside of riding, Pendergraft attends Aubrey High School and is the vice president of the Aubrey FCCLA. After high school, she plans to attend Southern Methodist University.

The barrel racers took to the arena from February 21-22. $20,000 in scholarships were awarded to youth with the fastest average times from both days of the race. The first of the two scholarships was
