Drayton Hall and Madeira Wine Tasting Take a walk back in time to the 1700’s at Drayton Hall one of the only preserved (unrestored) South Carolina plantations in existence. This domicile was in the same family for nearly 200 years and exhibits signs of post war occupation and daily family life. Still without electricity or indoor plumbing, the plantation is a living artifact that tells the story of US history. After touring the plantation and grounds, which hosts the oldest documented African-American cemetery still in use today, relax with a Madeira
wine tasting, learning the history and importance of this tasty beverage to the colonial Charleston economy.
The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon Our Tuesday evening reception will be in the presence of ghosts of the past. The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon is one of the oldest structures in Charleston, and is the site of slave auctions and served as a British prison during the Revolutionary War. Before retiring to second floor banquet facilities, enjoy cocktails as docents in period attire discuss the history of the building and the numerous artifacts contained within dating back to Charleston’s origins.
Listen to wonderful tales of pirates
and patriots in this building, steeped in American history from the public reading of the Declaration of Independence to its designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1973.
