SJPREP.NET FROM THE HEADMASTER Dear Friends of Prep,
As we embark on our 160th year, I appreciate this opportunity to reflect on my time serving as Headmaster of Saint John’s Preparatory School. My first three years as Headmaster have been devoted to establishing operational stability to ensure that our school is financially secure, marketing ourselves to reach new audiences of students and alumni/ae, and grow our Board of Regents to include even more talented and dedicated members.
During the 2015-16 fiscal year we strategically created the Advancement Department, combining into one team the Admission, Development and Marketing offices. While staff members have independent roles, this new team is collaborating with each other, the Board of Regents and our entire community to shape the vision and future of Prep.
We have new academic leadership in the 2016-17 school year. Pamela McCarthy, has brought fresh insight and energy to curriculum planning and professional development, which is critical as we strive to provide a superior academic program. Our extremely talented faculty and staff continue to provide an excellent academic and spiritual education for our student body.
Saint John’s Prep is always conscious of its operating budget and maximizing the generosity of our friends, alumni/ae and supporters. We are grateful for the financial support we receive from our many benefactors as we depend on our greater Prep School community to sustain our efforts of providing a superior Catholic Benedictine education for students from Central Minnesota and around the world. Saint John’s Abbey continues to offer its spiritual support and guidance; however, our financial autonomy from the Abbey since 1999 challenges us to forever expand our efforts to secure the necessary resources required to operate the Prep School. Thank you for the role you play in this effort. I am thankful for the faithful support from our generous donors, our staff, faculty, students, alumni/ae and friends that make our school a success as we enter our 160th year.
Perhaps most importantly, our Board of Regents is supporting a strategic planning process that is scheduled to be completed by the end of the academic year. This planning process will challenge us to look at ourselves and the health of Saint John’s Prep and plan for a bright future. I look forward to your engagement in this process and look forward to sharing our strategic vision with you.
Speaking of our Board of Regents, I am grateful for the many hours of their time they have committed to ensure the mission of Saint John’s Prep remains in focus. I want to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Board Chair, Ryan Gerads ‘97, for his leadership and mentoring of our incoming Board Chair, Katie Bergstrom ‘83. Together they’re energizing our Board. You can expect great things from this team of leaders. I am also thankful for the efforts of our outgoing members and their continued support. I know they will continue to be a part of the Saint John’s Prep community for years to come.
The attached report reveals the highlights of our financial and community accomplishments. We are grateful to be able to recognize the generosity of our alumni/ae, parents, faculty, staff, grandparents and friends.
Sincerely,
