Sargeant wins Lifetime Achievement Award Defibrillator for Hendy School

CLUB had a treat on Monday (Jan 23) as they visited the Mayor's Parlour. The visit coincided with the head coach of the club, Carol Sargeant, winning

Gymnastics Lifetime Achievement Award at a prestigious ceremony held at The Vale last Saturday (Jan 21).


On receiving the award, Carol


said: “I feel overwhelmed, humbled and honoured to receive the Welsh Gymnastics Lifetime Achievement Award. Massive thanks to Welsh Gymnastics. I am privileged to have a supportive family and to be part of such a great club who have


supported and encouraged me over the years and hopefully for many more to come.” 22 gymnasts from the club have


also been invited to take part in a gymnastic competition in Florida but they need to raise funds in order to attend. Mayor Bill Thomas suggested that the club starts a JustGiving page and also said that the Town Council would make a contribution of up to £500. The club provides daily


recreational and competitive gymnastics sessions for girls and boys of all ages. They have around 250 members at present.


one of the latest recipients of an AED defibrillator thanks to the efforts of local councillors, lottery funding and the charity MyCariad. Part of the funding received by the community was used to hold community days providing training in the use of defibrillators and life- saving techniques. The first of the training days will


take place at Hendy School at 3.30pm on Monday, February 13. Local councillor Steve Lloyd-Janes told The Herald that all parents are welcome to attend the course after picking their children up from school. The training will be conducted


by volunteers from MyCariad. Steve Lloyd-Janes, who is secretary and trustee of Hendy and Communities Parks Committee, said: “The committee are very grateful for the help that MyCariad has given to help


secure £4,000 from the Lottery to purchase four defibrillators for the local community.” He continued: “If anyone cannot


make the first training date, there will be another training day later in the month. Funster's in Hendy have kindly offered their premises for a similar training day and MyCariad volunteers will be arranging a similar day there.” Mrs Kenny, headteacher at Hendy


School, said: “The staff at Hendy School are very grateful for this gift to the school and parents are welcome to join the staff on Monday, February 13 to learn life saving skills. We all hope we never come to situation where we would need to use these skills, but if a situation does occur, this training will help and people would be more confident to administer life saving skills, which could help to save somebody's life.”
