Bison provides units for large Edinburgh development
A leading UK precast concrete manufacturer, Bison Manufacturing, has been appointed to provide its units for a new residential project in Edinburgh. Designed and developed by property developers, David Wilson Homes, the apartment block within the larger Liberton Grange development situated in Liberton, South Edinburgh, will consist of 32 flats, spanning across four floors. In its entirety, the Liberton Grange development will consist of 205 new homes, including one and two bedroom apartments, along with three and four bedroom homes. Having been appointed by David Wilson Homes, Bison will supply a total of 2852m² of their 200mm deep Hollowcore floor units, as well as two staircases which will span from the ground to the third floor of the apartment complex. Specified for the quality of its products, Bison’s precast staircases also offer immediate access to upper floors during the construction phase. Bryan Galloway, construction director for David Wilson Homes, said “Having worked with Bison on numerous other projects, we are aware of the benefits of using their products.” Work started in early 2015, with the development expected to be complete by June 2019.

Cambridge Blue © Richard Murphy Architects
Richard Murphy Architects have created a new campus for Anglia Ruskin University, announced by a dramatic curved facade clad in tiered layers of Nordic Blue Living 3 pre-patinated copper from Aurubis. The phased development on the edge of a Cambridge conservation area sought not only to create additional education floor space but also to repair and reinstate a small piece of Cambridge’s historic urban fabric. The 2nd phase building has been given a unique facade of copper cladding and a dramatic stepped roof profile, both to identify the lecture theatre volume within but also to signify the campus entrance at one end, whilst stepping down to the scale of neighbouring, Victorian terraced housing at the other. The three buildings comprising the new campus share the same external facing brickwork, structured by dark metal detailing. In contrast, vertical standing-seam cladding in pre-patinated copper from Aurubis accentuates the curved facades of the lecture theatre. Richard Murphy Architects’ Nordic Blue is a factory-applied patina developed with properties and colours based on the same brochantite mineralogy found in natural patinas all over the world.
