years and held at different locations around the U.S. Te four-day seminar is based on the rigorous training program for German Ha- noverian judges. World renowned breed expert Dr. Ludwig Christmann of the

German Hanoverian Verband leads hands-on training sessions evaluating mares for conformation and movement followed by question and answer sessions with the attendees. One of the most popular aspects of the course is when all the attendees are given the opportunity to judge and score mares presented in-hand on the triangle and compare their notes with that of Dr. Christmann. Additional topics discussed include bloodlines; stallion testing and licensing; mare inspections and the MPT; and how to mar- ket and sell both foals and riding horses. Troughout the course there are visits to farms and stallion stations, behind-the-scenes tours of equine reproduction facilities and a Saturday evening gala event. Not only is the course an immersion into the world of Hanoverian Warmblood breeding, it allows attendees to meet and network with other like-minded breeders, often forming life- long friendships.

Young Breeder’s Club Te AHS organizes educational programs geared specifically for

young riders, breeders and horse enthusiasts between the ages of 14 to 25. Te program is modeled on the popular youth clubs in Germany to educate these young riders and breeders on topics including judging a horse’s potential for sport, conformation eval- uation, how to present horses in hand, free jumping and theory. Participants learn to present a horse on the triangle and are tested on their new judging skills in such areas as conformation evalua- tion, free jumping and work at liberty. Te AHS has a team of young breeders that will compete

at the International Young Breeders Competition in Calgary, Canada later this year. Tis competition brings together young breeders from across breed associations, countries and languages, helping them make new friends and forge connections within the equine community.

Breeder Mentor Program Tis mentor program is a very special benefit offered to AHS

members who would like assistance navigating the inspection process. Te goal is to help new breeders feel welcome and make the inspections as enjoyable as possible. Te AHS has eight highly experienced volunteer mentors who are available to discuss topics such as foal presentation, mare inspection, registry options and how to prepare a mare for the MPT. If you would like to make contact with an AHS mentor you can do so by checking the box at the bottom of the inspection enrollment form, by contacting the AHS office directly or through your inspection site host, who will pass your information along to a mentor.

Annual Meeting Te AHS annual meeting is a three-day event that includes

seminars and presentations by industry professionals. Each year boasts a special theme and for 2017 it was Hunters and Jumpers: An American Hanoverian in Every Stall. (Te event was held in January in Florida. Next year’s meeting will be held in Lexington, Kentucky.) Te AHS board meets during the annual meeting and educational sessions are held for attendees. Social events include the catered awards banquet and silent auction. Te gathering concludes with a general membership meeting during which speakers give an overview of the society’s progress and forthcoming goals. Tis year’s meeting offered the opportunity to meet John and Beezie Madden in Wellington and to attend dres- sage and jumping shows. Te AHS encourages all members to attend the annual meeting to discuss aspects associated with the registry, meet other members, attend educational opportunities and, above all, have fun!

The AHS website, www.hanoverian.org, is an incredible resource for Hanoverian breeders. Extensive information is available on numerous topics and we encourage all Warmblood breed- ers to visit and explore the site.
