Rejuvenating, refreshing and relaxing, massages are the ideal way in which to unwind and unravel from the hectic pressures of modern life.
“Massage has a profound effect on many things,” explains Marie-Louise Coster, Salon Owner and Beauty Trainer. “It can help a weight loss programme in conjunction with a diet and exercise regime. It can also be used to assist joint mobility – as the muscles relax, the joints can move more freely – making it great for conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism.”
“Massage will also aid the removal of toxins within the body due to the stimulation of the lymphatic system,” she adds. “Unlike the circulatory system the lymphatic system has no pump, so massage is one of the best ways to remove the toxins from the body leaving
the client with more vitality and feeling more invigorated.

“Massage is the best way to relieve tension, to get into the muscles and breakdown tension nodules that can often lead to pain and discomfort. Ultimately massage is extremely relaxing and gives the client the opportunity to just escape the trials and tribulations of every day and switch off for a period of time – something that is priceless for most people.”
You will no doubt already be providing clients with some form of traditional massage service, either as a stand-alone treatment using oils, lotions and creams or perhaps used as a relaxing complement during your facials, manicures and pedicures. Yet with the popularity of this type of treatment on the rise, why not seize the chance to offer that little something extra to customers by taking advantage of the diverse range of massage tools at your disposal. From candles to compresses, introducing a touch of uniqueness is sure to excite and entice your clientele.
Why not revitalise and refresh your treatment menu this Spring by adopting a new approach to your massage techniques.
Hot stones Used to restore a state of relaxation, hot stone massages are ideal for returning the equilibrium to both mind and body. Once the stones have been heated, therapists then use to gently glide all over the body in order to relieve tired muscles.
“The movement with a stone is the equivalent to eight to ten movements with just the beauty therapist’s hands resulting in a much deeper massage,” says Marie- Louise. “The addition of the application of heat within a body massage has the most profound effect in creating a deeper state of relaxation. The heat gets into the muscles and relaxes the muscle fibres much quicker than manual massage will, in a much shorter length of time – making this treatment perfect for people with severe stress and tension in particular areas. It is also great for people who play a lot of sports, those who suffer with arthritis, anxiety and stress.”
