The bold lip Let’s be honest – the red lip will probably never fall off the beauty radar. It’s a timeless classic that can completely transform the face. However, it can still be re-imagined when seasons change. So it’s out with the old, and in with a brand new hue: gone are those dark berry Winter lips, and in come the brighter, more vibrant colours.

Coral, post box and candy-apple red are the shades of choice, and should be worn as a statement with the rest of the face kept minimal; just a flick of mascara to make the eyes pop will suffice.

Encourage your clients to go for a matte look during the day, and add a sheen for the evening to create that plump, glossy Jessica Rabbit pout.

For super neat application, the Mineral Lip Styler by Artdeco is a great weapon of choice. For clients who are apprehensive about wearing a trend so bold, reassure them that the Candelilla Cera wax in this product makes for a perfectly smooth finish, and is easy to apply.

The ‘no-make-up’ make-up trend A great trend for weddings, or one to teach your clients to master for their holiday, the ‘no-make-up’ make-up trend was all over the season’s catwalks, and it’s one that High Definition understand completely. “It’s no surprise that as the temperature rises, barefaced chic takes centre stage, with clients opting for nude-looking skin, neutral tones, a sun-kissed glow and natural highlights,” they say.

“To give skin the appearance of sheen, but with a flattering finish, use High Definition’s Illuminator after applying your usual base. Apply this light-diffusing powder to the very top of your cheekbones to highlight the skin and add definition. The oil-absorbing formula is a warm flattering shade, and so gives a glowing, soft-focus finish, reminiscent of the glowing skin we saw on the catwalk, but without any unflattering shine.”

The trend is designed to accentuate the beautiful features of the face, so opt for soft, neutral tones when presenting cosmetics to your clients. Where Winter is more about deeper, brown tones, and Summer is all about the bronze, Spring is a great opportunity to pick out the light blush pinks to give a fresh, youthful glow to the face – show your clients which areas to contour and highlight for a natural look.

Cosmetics brand jane iredale are also embracing bare-faced beauty. Their new ‘Skin Is In’ collection is based entirely around this trend, and features an array of neutral, earthy tones to achieve this look.

“The collection provides the ultimate wearable look that is naturally, beautifully nude, but not naked,” comment the brand.

Boy brows Brows have been a big trend in recent years, and they’ve since become a huge statement in the beauty world.

If 2015 was the year for the sleek and neat contoured brow, then 2016 is the year for the Boy Brow: thick, filled in and brushed upwards to eliminate the arch. The trend has been coveted by celebrity style icons Cara Delevingne, Emma Watson and Victoria Beckham, and is considered a more ‘natural look’ as opposed to the defined brows that championed last year’s trends.

Although it typically appears as a more masculine look, it actually softens the rest of the facial features, giving off that natural, fresh-as-a-Spring-daisy effect.

Eyebrow pencils from Couleur Caramel include a brow brush at end of the pencil for combing, softening and styling; a great cult product to encourage your clients to keep in their make-up bag for whenever their eyebrows need tending to.

Practice makes perfect when it comes to the eyebrows, and this trend isn’t one that will suit every face. If you’re practicing make-up on a client, teach them exactly how to make the most of their eyebrows by showcasing an array of techniques. With this trend in particular, there’s no need for neat lines and contouring, so use the pencil in the direction of the natural eyebrow hairs and brush upwards for optimum effect.
