In Conversation With - Audrey Heffernan . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . All things beauty

This month we chat to Audrey Heffernan, Training Manager at Hennessy Hair & Beauty Supplies, who shares with us her love for the beauty industry and reveals her passions away from work.

I always had a passion for beauty and anything girlie when growing up. It was always something I wanted to do. When I was completing my beauty course, I loved every minute of it and knew it was right for me.

The best thing about my job is having the first glance at new trends and collections coming into the nail and beauty industry. We get very excited here at head office when we get a sneak peak of up-and-coming collections and new products. We can get forecasts months in advance before the products are going to be released and it gets very exciting.

An average day for me involves teaching a class either for the morning or a full day, depending on the course that is being taught. In addition to answering calls and emails, preparing for the next course scheduled and finishing off with meetings and paperwork.

Before I got into beauty, I worked as a trainer in a medical device company and I really liked that also. If I wasn’t in the industry, maybe I would have gone back into that field.

My biggest achievement to date is being a certified OPI educator for Ireland and my kids, of course.

My ideal weekend would be on a beach drinking cocktails.

My favourite film is Dirty Dancing – it’s an all-time classic.

My beauty icon has to be Pippa O’Connor – love her. She is so natural and so gorgeous. Plus, she gives great tips on make-up application and products.

My favourite beauty treatment is a full body massage or hot stone massage. I love them both and you feel so much better after a massage.

My top beauty tip is to cleanse, tone and moisturise religiously day and night. I know it’s quite a simple tip but so many people don’t do this. As your skin begins to age, it needs a lot of TLC. A

good moisturiser custom to your needs and type is a great investment.

My favourite part of the world has to be New York. From the shopping and sights to the hustle and bustle, I love it all. There’s always a great atmosphere there.

I’m at my happiest when I’m with my kids. You can’t beat a movie night with the kiddies in front of the fire, making memories.

I would like to be remembered as a good mother, strong and independent.

The best piece of advice I’ve been given is, “Start as you mean to go on”. My Mom said this to me a long time ago and it’s something that has always stuck in my head.
