2nd Place Large Kitchen: Nar Bustamante - Nar Fine Carpentry, Inc.

The clients wanted a kitchen that would be used for entertaining large parties as well as everyday family use. They wanted to celebrate the tall ceilings already within the home. The new puzzle island accommodates group seating and the quaint built-in bistro table adds a small private area. Giving the family a classic feeling kitchen with a modern edge.

3rd Place Small Kitchen: Katie Denham - Katie Denham Interiors

Streng Theory: The distinctive architectural style of the midcentury Streng home with its low pitched roof, high transom windows and open plan drove this kitchen design. Horizontal grained walnut cabinets, dimensional subway backsplash tile, terrazzo patterned quartz counters and sculptural wood pendant lights all enforce the midcentury feel. Our theory: innovative design respecting existing architectural style leads to ultimate success and loyal clients.

Horizontal Lines in a Vertical Space. Although this kitchen has a high ceiling, horizontal lines draw your eye around the space. Rough textured rock was specified at the juncture of the kitchen to the family room as juxtaposition to the smooth cabinet and countertop surfaces. To visually lower the ceiling and to add warmth to the space cedar planks were specified.
