USING PUBLIC TRANSPORT

If you plan to use public tranport, research the services available before your trip. Adopt the same precautions to avoid becoming a victim of crime, as when travelling in the UK. In particular:

• Plan your journey in advance and make sure you know your route.

• Check the last times of services. • Always try to wait in a well-lit place.

• Have your ticket or change ready, so that your purse or wallet is out of sight.

• Look out for Help points and passenger alarms and use them if you feel threatened.

On the street

Try to use well-lit, busy streets and avoid badly-lit alleyways, subways or isolated parks.

Stay alert! If you are chatting on the phone or listening to music, you will not hear potential danger approaching.

Using Taxis

Always use reputable, licensed taxi services. Check with your hotel on

what is available.

Trust your instincts - if you are in any doubt, do NOT get in the vehicle. If you become worried about your safety, ask the driver to stop in a busy location and get out.

Keep your valuables safe

Be discreet with your belongings. Keep your hand luggage zipped or locked and hold on to it at all times.

Be alert to distraction theft, where one person distracts you and another goes through your pockets or bags.
