THE death has been announced of June Ingram. The long-time member ofWest Malling Ro-


tary Club died in Pembury Hospital after a very short illness. June was widely known through her con- nections with the Rotary Club, her work in the local area and her work with SERVKent (Ser- vice by Emergency Response Volunteers) an organisation specialising in activities like rapid delivery of blood supplies for emer- gency use. said; “June’s happy smiling face will be greatly missed by all her knew her.”


Flora Jenner


THE death on November 1 has been announced of Florence “Flora” Jenner. Flora,wholived in Bexhill-on-Sea,was born Florence Piper in Maid- stone, the daughter of local


Henry Piper. Her death announce-


ment stated she “lived and learned at The Elms, London Road.” Flora was the wife of


Ian who served in the RAF, and mother to


David, Colin and Elizabeth. A death an- nouncement in the Daily Telegraph noted she was: “an ardent independence campaigner who fulfilled her dream at the end”. Flora – whowas widowed – leaves her two younger children, son David having pre-de- ceased her, and her grandchildren Alice, Iso- bel, Olivia and Jessica.


Ron Lickfold


RONDALD“Ron” Lickfold (81) lived locally, spending the last 45 years in Park Wood. Hewas born in Maidstone and grew up on the Foster Clark estate. He aended Southborough School, where he loved art. On leaving school, he worked at Harne’s


Rose Nursery in Bearsted and completed his National Service in the RAF in Yorkshire. He loved nature and the natural world, Mote Park and Bedgebury Pinetum being among his favourite places. Ronwas an avid reader and dabbled in poetry, followed a variety of sports and even took up boxing in the RAF, but his first love was always fishing. In 1958, Ron married Maisie, who he met


on holiday. He later worked for Express Dairies, receiving an award for long service, until ill health forced him to retire. He recovered enough to help at the original Monk Lakes in Marden and when they relocated he moved to run the tackle shop. Ron leaves Maisie and son Anthony.


PamHensby


PAMELA“Pam” Hensby lived for 41 years on St Andrew’s Road and lived locally her whole life. Born Pamela Turk and raised in Tovil, Pam worked in the milk bar at the back of the current site of the Mall Chequers, in a

laundry on the Loose Road and at International Stores onWeek Street and Pricerite on the current site of Argos on Maidstone High Street. Pam’s last jobswere as a staff canteen cashier in local hospitals, working at Oakwood Hospital until that closed and then at Maidstone Hospital. As a young woman she spent several years


involved with the Salvation Army. Whilst working in International Stores she


met Ray Hensby, whowas to be her husband of 41 years, and the couple seled on St Andrew’s Road in the house Ray had grown up in. He said: “Pam very much liked being with


other people and shewas close to her family, especially her nieces and nephews. “She lovedwalking and music; especially singers including Michael Ball, Cliff Richard, Celine Dion and RussellWatson. Whenwe were both retiredwe took a major trip to Canada visiting places like Vancouver Island before flying to the United States wherewe saw Celine Dion perform in Las Vegas, and to Hawaii.” Pamleaves Ray and her many friends and family.


Robin Stafford


GOUDHURST’S Robin Stafford (86)was a renowned journalist with an impressive list of credits. He served as foreign correspondent for the


Daily Mail for about 20 years, before taking the post as spokesman for Lord Carrington (at that time serving as Secretary General of Nato). He worked around the world, always being ready to leave immediately for a foreign story whilst working as a journalist. Born inWimbledon, Robin grew up the


son of an artistic director in theatre andwas educated at the University of Cambridge. He chose to do military service before working as a journalist. Robinwas married twice, and had a daughter, Lina. He seled in Goudhurst with his second wife Barbara, who survives him.


Sandra Young


THE tragic death of Vinters Park woman Sandra Young (42) made local headlines. The married mother, who recently became


a grandmother collapsed and died whilst out shopping in the The Mall, Maidstone, on December 2. Just aweek before


her death, she had posted a thanks on Facebook to paramedics who she said had saved her life at Tesco Grove Green, on that occasion. She


wrote: “I have so many people to thank for last night the ambulance service ,Kent air ambulance, police , Tesco and most of all my husband and wonderful family have so much to thank you all for.”


Carl Miners


THE death has been announced of Carl Miners, of Snodland.


Carl worked for the gas board for many


years and for the firm of Hickmo and Miners plumbers and gas installers. He leaves his many friends and family locally.


Kayleigh Caesar


TRIBUTES have been paid after the sudden death on Christmas Eve of Kayleigh Caesar (28), whose bodywas discovered at The Dragoon pub on the corner of Sandling Road and Hope Street. The pub had been


home to Kayleigh since her mother, Clare Parslow, took over as licensee in January 2016. Kayleigh – whowas named after Marillion’s hit song in the eighties – lived locally her whole life.


She had worked in local care homes and done bar work in establishments including the Village Inn and The Bull at Penenden Heath. Kayleigh’s selflessness and love of life


have been praised by friends and family, many of whom have taken to social media to pay tribute. Shewaswell known in the area, and much of her social life and friendship revolved around the pub that was also her home. Her mother has spoken movingly of the tireless work Kayleigh had put into helping others in her work in local care homes, saying: "Kayleigh's view of lifewas simple: Make people happy and help others less fortunate than yourself. To this end, she had worked tirelessly over the years in various old people's rest homes offering comfort and help to those in need. “Outside work, she led a social life much


of which revolved around The Dragoon public house, where she lived. "Her many friends and locals have been touched by her infectious sense of fun, with the sound of her laughter never far away. But sometimes the pressures of life can be cruel and a shining star of beauty and goodness has been extinguished. She will be sorely missed, but never forgoen, by all her family and friends. Rest in peace Kayleigh.” Kayleigh’s friend Vicky Baldock said: “Going to miss her so much, feel like my heart is completely broken.” Her nephew Michael Holness said:


“You’ve left us all in bits Kay” whilst Nikki Owen said simply “RIP Beautiful.” Kayleigh leaves her mother, step-father,


sisters Lorrina, Deonne, Kirsty, Casey and Melissa and brother Joseph.
