Mummy helps boost museum gallery fund

ANEVENING of fundraising has been held for the redevelopment of Maidstone Museum’s Ancient Civilisations gallery amid “un- precedented” interest in its mum- mified artefacts. Heritage Lottery Fund cash will

be used to modernise the building, but local benefactors will be needed to complete the work. The event, which attracted busi-

ness leaders and local dignitaries, enjoyed a guest appearance by BBC TV’s Meet The Ancestors presenter, Julian Richards. Mr Richards said recent scans of Maidstone Museum’s mummy, Ta- Kush, had helped to unravel the se- crets of the past. Museum directorVictoria Barlow

said: “Tthe level of interest in our mummy and our Ancient Civilisa- tions gallery is unprecedented, so to be able to welcome so many sup- porters to this fundraising event represents a great opportunity to showcase the level of work that has been invested into unveiling the se- crets held within the collection. “We hope that other parties inter-

Victoria Barlow, Julian Richards and Mark Baker with mummy Ta-Kush

ested in pledging their support to our work and the revised gallery won’t hesitate to get in touch. We are thankful to Julian Richards for taking the time to visit and show his appreciation for the work under- taken at Maidstone Museum.” Mark Baker, chairman of Maid-

stone Museums’ Foundation, said: “The gallery is one of Maidstone Museum’s most popular attrac- tions, and plays an integral role in the educational services.

“The funding we have secured through the Heritage Lottery Fund will enable us to modernise the gallery, but it’s essential thatwe en- courage the support of local busi- nesses and benefactors to help us complete the work.” To become a supporter of theAn- cient Civilisations gallery and other projects run by the Maidstone Mu- seum Foundation, call Lyn Palmer on 01622 602862 or email exhibi- tions@maidstone.gov.uk today.

HELPING BUSINESSES GROW

Advertisement feature downsmail.co.uk NEVER TOO OLD FOR A MORTGAGE!

Sarah Ferrell is our local gem as far as mortgage advice is concerned. With over 20 years’ experience in the mortgage market, Sarah deals with all manner of mortgage enquiries. Whether it is for a

new house purchase, a re-mortgage, a buy- to-let enquiry or to discuss releasing equity from your home in retirement, Sarah is happy to discuss any mortgage needs with anyone – regardless of age. She is one of the few advisers fully qualified and licensed to deal with both “traditional” and retirement mortgages and her current clients range in age from 19 – 93! Sarah has commented that whilst many of her clients contact her because they are looking to move house or re-mortgage, there are an increasing number of people contacting her with questions about raising mortgage finance in retirement.

Through no fault of their own, an increasing number of people are carrying debt into retirement or needing to raise new finance and this can make the “Golden Years” potentially worrying, due to financial pressures.

The good news is that it need not be such a worry, as there are many safe and affordable options specifically for those in retirement. “The choice is greater than ever, which means I can usually find the right solution,” says Sarah.

Whether you need to repay a mortgage, finance some unexpected outlay or just make your retirement more comfortable, there are many options available to you. Retirement Mortgages and Equity Release can provide a safe and very welcome solution for many people who just don’t realise this may be an option to help them.

Sarah says “I see so many people who are worried about their finances at a time in their lives when they really don’t want financial pressure. Being able to take those worries

away is tremendously rewarding”

Sarah takes a great deal of time to work out which solution may be best for each individual and says: “My advice for a first-time buyer would be very different than if I were speaking with somebody approaching retirement and I am fortunate enough to be able to offer advice to everybody regardless of what stage of life they are at. If somebody has questions about mortgage finance then I would strongly recommend a conversation as I can then point people in the right direction.”

Sarah is happy to visit your home and, unlike many banks, she is not just available 9-5 but will offer flexible times to suit her clients.

“I have been advertising in the Downs Mail and the Mid Kent Living Magazine for over 10 years.

Despite changes in the market during this time I have always received a good response to the pieces I have had published.

The number of enquiries I receive make it more than worthwhile for me to continue my advertising and this year, as a result of an ongoing good response, I have increased the amount of advertising I do with Downs Mail.

I have been delighted that my advertising is generating the new business I am looking for and the team at Downs Mail have always been pleasant and efficient to deal with.

Thank you and please keep doing what you are doing - it is working for me!” Sarah Ferrell, Professional Mortgage Services
