digging fork, Ken Ho weeder, ham- mocks, cotton and wool scarves, 4 inch and gallon size potted herbs, a bag of organic compost or earth- worm castings and those indis- pensable metal buckets. ‘Tis the season to be jolly. . . Give your gardening friends a stunning wreath of lavender, Bay Laurel, or braided garlic. Accom- pany with a sumptuous bottle of dark cherry Pinot Noir, sweet des- sert wines like Muscat, Chocolate Red or Red Velvet, and don’t forget the several divine varieties of com- plex Port, a fortifi ed wine from the Douro Valley in the northern prov- inces of Portugal, some of the most age-worthy wines in the world! Fa la la la la-la la ti da.

And last but not least BULBS ... continued from page 10

from catalogues and local nurser- ies. Give your aspiring gardener unusual tulip bulbs in colorful combinations, paper whites, heir- loom varieties of allium, freesia and crocus bulbs, hyacinths, daf- fodils and special glass bulb-jars for indoor growing of the cheerful window sill garden. Sugar plum fa- eries dance. . .

Ribbons of cotton candy seem to slowly swirl and twirl in the ever moving winter sky, a hush of Paris pink in quiet sunsets. Hundreds of tiny birds dot telephone wires only to be frightened away, disappearing in an almost murmuration. Look for magic this time of year and re- joice in every breath you take on this tiny gem we inhabit in the vast Milky Way galaxy. Rejoice!

Energy and Water Savings Toolkits to Debut at Select Sonoma County Libraries

Santa Rosa, CA. ~ In conjunc- tion with the Sonoma County Library, the Sonoma County Energy and Sustainability Divi- sion, the Sonoma County Wa- ter Agency and Sonoma Clean Power are introducing “Do It Yourself”

Water Savings Toolkits as part of a pilot program promoting energy and water effi ciency. The toolkits will be available for checkout at the Guerneville, Sebastopol, and Central Santa Rosa branches of the Sonoma County Library that began on November 8, 2016. Modeled after another success- ful program undertaken in Santa Clara County, the DIY Toolkits will enable Sonoma County Li- brary cardholders to check out the kits for up to three (3) weeks. They provide tools and infor- mation enabling cardholders to perform home upgrade projects such as weather-stripping win-

(DIY) Energy and

dows and doors, monitoring electrical use, determining wa- ter leaks, and switching to LED lightbulbs. “Through this col- laborative effort, we are taking action to increase knowledge about home energy and conser- vation”, said Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo. “It’s very exciting to see these agen- cies partnering to deliver the tools that library patrons need to make their homes healthier and more effi cient.”

Following the six-month pi- lot period, the program will be evaluated for effectiveness. If deemed successful, the toolkits will be made available to addi- tional branches of the Sonoma County Library. “This is a great beginning for the Library in providing environmental educa- tion resources to the residents of Sonoma County,” said Sonoma County Library Director, Brett Lear. More information about the DIY Toolkits can be found at www.sonomacleanpower. org/programs, in person by go- ing into a participating library branch. For more information go to sceip@sonoma-county. org.

JOKES & Humor # 8

My fl ight was delayed in Houston. Since the gate was needed for another fl ight, our aircraft was backed away from the terminal, and we were directed to a new gate. We all found the new gate, only to discover a third gate had been designated for our plane. Finally, everyone got on board the right plane, and the fl ight attendant announced: “We apolo- gize for the gate change. This fl ight is going to

Washington, D.C. If your destination is not Wash- ington, D.C., you should deplane at this time.” A moment later a red-faced pilot emerged from the cockpit, carrying his bags.

“Sorry,” he said, “wrong plane.”
