News ‘Store is safe’


TALKS have still to confirm the fu- ture of Hollingbourne’s general store, Christopher’s. Owner Christopher Rudgard


said details of a take-over are still being discussed, but confirmed the store in Eyhorne Street is safe, at least until April. Mr Rudgard, who announced his intention to retire after running the shop for 12 years, said: “The shop will stay in business at least until the first quarter.”


Two-year ban


A 47-YEAR-OLD woman has been banned from driving for two years after failing a breath test. Marissha Khan, of Boxley Road, Maidstone, admitted drink driving at Mid Kent Magistrates’ Court. She drove a Vauxhall Vectra in


Willington Street and gave a breath test of 107mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg. Aswell as the ban, Khan must pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

New benefice to serve a growing population


A PACKED servicewelcomed the formation of a new rural benefice in the area, linking churches along the North Downs. More than 100 people attended


the service celebrating the forma- tion of the new North Downs Benefice at All Saints' Church in Hollingbourne. It unites the parishes of Holling- bourne, Bearsted, Boxley, Broom- field, Detling, Grove Green, Hucking, Kingswood, Langley, Leeds, Otham, and Thurnham under Team Rector Canon John Corbyn in Bearsted. The new Team Vicar is Rev Steve Hughes, who will minister to Broomfield, Kingswood, Langley, Leeds, and Otham. The parishes along the Pilgrim's Way including Hollingbourne and Boxley will be served by another Team Vicar, yet to be appointed, but who will live at Hollingbourne vicarage. Until then, Rev Hughes will act as chair- man of All Saints’ Parochial Church Council. As part of the new benefice, a Missioner will also be appointed,
