News Guns stolen
MEDALS including the MBE and Star of Burma and six shotguns have been stolen from a house in East Sutton. It is reported that between 9.45am and 3.30pm onWednesday, October 26, a property in Morry Lane was targeted. A cabinet con- taining the guns is reported to have been taken, along with the medals. Detective Constable Suzanne Basford said: “I would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious. Scamwarning
MAIDSTONE Borough Council has been forced to issue a warning after a series of scam calls in the area. The council’s call centre has received reports from eight people and messages on social media about callers purporting to be from the authority, asking if they have been in traffic accidents. A council spokesman said: “These callswere not authorised by MBC. We urge residents not to di- vulge any personal details and to report the incident to KCC Con- sumer Direct and the police.”

Official: Maidstone best inUKfor having a baby
MAIDSTONE is the best place in the UK to have a baby, according to a newly-published review. Maternity services in mid and
west Kent have been rated top out of nearly 200 NHS similar bodies nationwide. Almost 6,000 of the area’s babies
are delivered by Maidstone and TunbridgeWellsNHSTrust (MTW) each year. The data has been published as
part of a transparency drive by health secretary Jeremy Hunt in an effort to improve Britain’s place in international league tables. The ratings examine stillbirth and neo-natal mortality, maternal smok- ing at the time of delivery, women’s experience of maternity services and women’s choice. MTW came top for three of the
four categories and the average score for a woman’s experience of West Kent’s maternity services was nearly 84/100. While 144 clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) need improvement and 53 were performing well, just one,MTW,was assessed as top per- forming.
