Team success


BEARSTED resident Barbara Dun- ford received a bouquet and a bottle of bubbly from members of the parish council for her work in or- ganising the fireworks display. The event on November 4 was


well-attended despite the weather, with almost all the tickets having been bought online. Barbarawas thanked by Cllr Paul


Young for “running the show”. She said: “Itwas a team effort…a lot of people put in a lot of hard work.” The parish council agreed to ex-


plore refinements to ticketing – such as scanning at the entrance.


Carol concert


AUDIENCEparticipation will be in- vited at this year’s carol concert with Bearsted Choral Society. Christmas carols and more are promised at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Button Lane, Bearsted, from 7.30pm on Saturday, December 17. Tickets for the concert, directed by Andrew Lowen, are £10 (students £5), while under 14s are free. Call 01634 666730 or email tick- ets@bearstedchoral.org.uk. Village plan


THEpublic meeting for views about Bearsted’s Neighbourhood Plan takes place at Madginford Hall at 7pm, on November 30. The parish council has produced a


plan to provide “a shared vision for the village and help shape the de- velopment and growth of Bearsted”. Residents can voice their views on


development, open spaces and The Green, transport, communication, business and employment, sports and leisure facilities. Refreshments will be provided.


Mynn awards


THE closing date for nominations for the Mynn Awards has passed and the adjudicatingpanel will meet to discuss the entrants. Theaward is given to peoplewhohave served the Bearsted community.

BEARSTED Parish Council rolled out the red carpet at the WI Hall for its over 60s, treating them to a free afternoon at a Victorian Music Hall.


The Players Theatre Club from Bloomsbury brought along Pearly KingPeter John and guest artistes in- cluding Julia Sutton, HelenWatson and musicianAndy Eastwood. The audience, which included

Therewas a free raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and Tesco provided tea and biscuits, which were served by the ladies of Bearsted and ThurnhamWIand the Guides. Lights to go on at Christmas fair

“the first in recent memory” – has been organised by the parish coun- cil in response to calls from vil- lagers for a larger Christmas gathering on The Green. There will also be plenty to feast


on at the festive fair, which runs from from 4-9pm, with food sup- pliers including Little Bridge


wood-fired pizzas, Sukoo Sukoo Indian Kitchen, Comedy Cook’s WinterWarmers, Dine Thyme, The Gourmet Griddle, and cocktails from Beetle-Juice and The Cheeky Mare Horse Box Bar, as well as mulled cider and real ale from Bearfeast. Santa is also expected to be among the guests, with the lights going on at 6pm.
