Call tomonitor ‘poor parking’
RESIDENTS in Grove Green have been asked to monitor parking near their homes amid concerns over increasing problems on roads in the area. Boxley Parish Council has asked families to send in photographs of bad parking during the next three months as it considers whether to apply for double yellow lines at the junctions and restrictions elsewhere to prevent commuters parking in certain areas. Concerns have been raised over
an increase in problems in Grove- wood Drive South and Provender Way where the situation had be- come more dangerous for children crossing the road to St John’s Pri- mary School. Families complained that parking
issues had become worse since Maidstone council’s park and ride service from EclipsePark closed ear- lier this year. They also blamednew parking restrictions at Mote Park and parking by students at nearby secondary schools. Borough ward Cllr Wendy Hin-
der (pictured), who is also a parish councillor, said: “I think the loss of the park and ride service could be causing some of the problems in
Grovewood Drive South. We have already helped to provide a crossing outside St John’s School in Proven- derWay.” She appealed to parents to park consideratelywhen dropping children off and collecting them from the school. She added:
“Some vehicles park so close to- gether and the children walk be- tween the vehicles.” Aresident whose child attends St
John’s School in ProvenderWay has launched a petition to Kent County Council, asking for a safer crossing on Grovewood Drive North be- tween Provender Way and Shep- herds Gate Drive. Children regularly use the exist-
ing crossing point on their way to school and other residents use it to visit Tesco, the post office and med- ical centre at Grove Green. The site has bollards in the centre of the road, but families say the road is very busy and the space between the markers is narrow and incon- venient for pushchairs and wheel- chair users. The petition is supported by the parish council.
