Changing the Thames Valley digital landscape – one event at a time
Following the success of ConnectTVT’s 50 Game Changers, we’re thrilled to announce a series of exciting initiatives focused on transforming the digital economy in the Thames Valley, writes Louize Clarke of ConnectTVT
The ConnectTVT Collective
Full disclosure: change can’t be achieved done alone. Collaboration has always been a core ethos for ConnectTVT. As such, we’re launching the ConnectTVT Collective. We’re bringing together trail blazers who, like us, champion a new mind-set. They’re truly committed to, and invested in, supporting the next generation of innovative tech and digital companies. We’re thrilled to welcome Opsview and Rawnet as our founding partners and are looking forward to building this together. A vibrant events programme, compelling content hub and programme of initiatives to drive change are on the agenda.
Our third Thames Valley Tech Week
Kick-starting this is our third Thames Valley
Tech Week November 19-24. Once again we’ll be bringing the week-long celebration of our thriving tech and digital scene to GROW@ GreenPark. From AR to our Reading DevOps Meetup, we’ll be showcasing and exploring the latest tech trends and bringing together some of the region’s best talent. Our Google DevFest on November 19 comprises a full day of exciting presentations and workshops centered around Google’s web technologies, cloud platform, mobile development, big data and machine learning technologies
Creating a culture of challenger brands
We’re incredibly excited to announce a joint event with Fairsail: How Can The UK Create A Culture Of Tech Challenger Brands? Hosted with Fairsail’s CEO Adam Hale, we’re bringing
together a panel of the scale-up world’s key influencers and experts to explore:
• How to help your business expand globally from the region
• How to invest in the talent of the future
• How to develop a pipeline of talent (in light of skills shortage, and Brexit)
• How to support the Thames Valley as a hub of UK and global tech growth.
Janet Coyle, principal adviser for growth, Got to Grow London; Jacqueline de Rojas, head of TechUK, SVP Northern Europe at Sage; Thomas Hellmann, professor of entrepreneurship and innovation, Said Business School; and, Andrew Yates, CEO at Artesian, will be joining us on the day.

15 minutes with Martin Cadby
Earlier this year Close Brothers launched a new division – Close Brothers Technology Services – that focuses on helping businesses with their technology requirements, from acquisition and funding to ongoing management and recovery
To find out more, The Business Magazine caught up with Close Brothers Technology Services’ Martin Cadby, who is responsible for the Thames Valley and Solent regions.
What does Close Brothers Technology Services do?
In a nutshell, we work with business owners to understand what technology is right for their business to ensure it’s set up for future growth. This includes partnering with businesses to fully understand the total cost of their technology and providing guidance on the technology best suited to help them meet their growth targets.
We also look at opportunities to release capital from a business’ existing technology to help with cashflow. It’s a straightforward way of accessing the value of technology already on a company’s balance sheet while still being able to use it.

What does a typical customer look like?
It’s difficult to say because the size of a business doesn’t always dictate how much technology it requires but typically most of the businesses we deal with have a turnover more than £10 million annually and have 100 employees or more.
And because we deal with technology, we’re sector agnostic.
How do you work?
I start by providing a consultation, which focuses on getting to know a business’ technology set-up in more detail. From there I can start making suggestions and recommendations about what they might need. There are times when a business is doing all the right things and they don’t need our help at the time, but for those who do
need some assistance, we work with them to understand what the right technology solution is for them.
This may range from guidance on how to purchase the right technology at the right cost through to identifying the right funding solution for that business, which can help remove IT becoming a drain on a business’ capital.
